Returned last night, Monday, from a quick two day trip to Stuttgart to visit the Mercedes-Benz and Porsche museums. Both quite impressive. Benz being older had a lot more to show. Eight story building. Vehicles from nearly every year from 1895 (a few of the early were replicas). Porsche doesn't start until 1948 (actually 1931 but as auto design firm). They have one of the 52 '48 356s. Actually the 356 was it until "60s. Got one of each year produced. Many of the race cars. Just two 914s. One of only two produced of the 914/8 that were built for Ferry Porsche (Dr. Fedinand's son) and a chief designer. It sounded as though these two had them built so they could scare the beegees off 911ers that tried to make fun of teeners. V8 aircooled porsche engine. Number of engine desplays. Makes my 914/4 "powerhouse" look muchO wimpy. Other 914 was '74. There was a Porsche farm tractor made in '50s and vehicle that looked like a VW Thing on steroids. Interesting fact. Both Mercedes and Porsche were in bed with Hitler and crew. Dr Ferdiand was imprisoned after WWII as a war criminal. Another oddity-Ferry favored the 928 of all the Porsches.
