Hi Guys,
have owned my 914 for about 6 years, goes great, however I
came up with the brainwave of buying a rebuildable engine. My thought
was to rebuild this engine over a period of months, when it was ready
swap it out for my original, then rebuild the original.
That way always had a "spare" in case anything went wrong.
As you can imangine here in Australia spare 914 engines are rare on
the ground. I found this one and bought it (havent seen it in the flesh yet)
the owner can only find this marking 932003 on it. The more I look at this
photo the more I'm not sure what I've got. (supposed to be a 1700)
All opinions etc welcome. Just not to rough guys.......

missing some parts but yeah it looks like a 1.7L Djet engine.

I would say a 73 1.7 engine. Have him look on top of the block on the right and see if there is an ea number prefix at at angle just to the right of the center line

The blue part number stamp on the oil filler tower is an early engine giveaway. Small throttle body is 1.7. Dipstick on top is 914, not bus. It's got sideshifter engine mounts on it, which wouldn't be original. And the fan is a later fan (they're interchangeable, but just FYI).

Thanks Guys starting to feel a bit better, my thought was maybe a 411/412
motor. Dont really know what they look like..

the oil dipstick is located in a different place on the VW version.
That is 914.
