This is not a (14 related, but I figure that i would post this since a lot of you are working with subaru motors.

I have a 93 Impreza. if i park the car in the evening, Starting is hard in the morning. the colder it is the worst it gets. the car would crank but take anywhere between a minute to 3 to start. when the car finaly starts, there is a bunch of smoke on the tail pipe (burning gas)

The bettery is always fully charged.

here is the weird part. if I disconnect the battery when I park it and connect it in the morning, it starts right up.

the check engine light is on, and when that happens, the fans both of them spins as soon as you turn the key on ingnition, not when the car is hot...

right now, I have a battery cut off switch installed to cut it off every night.

it behaves a bit better during the summer.

This idea might be way off in right field, but it almost sounds like you have an injector shorting when the key turns off and flooding the motor with the fuel left in the rail.

That would explain the longer cranking period as it would be necessary to clear the motor, and the smoke on startup indicated an excess of fuel. What does your oil look like?

The oil is fine.

after that morning start, it starts well everytime during the day.

What color is the smoke?
914itis
Blue
Dr Evil
Blue generally = oil sad.gif
malaga_red75
yea, exactly why i asked..

blue= oil
white= coolant (headgasket leak... subarus are known for this)
black= fuel??? not sure on this one

Ohms test the coolant temp sensor under the intake.

Could also be the IAC motor. Does it high rev when cold, then drop?

What's the best way to run a test on that?

So your IAC is probably stuck. Needs to be cleaned.
benalishhero
Voltmeter setting to Ohms, then touch each lead on the sensor. I can get you the values if needed....
benalishhero
370 ohms at operating temp.
