Stuttgart. Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, is starting 2011 with an important show debut in its largest market, the USA. At the North American International Auto Show in Detroit (January 10 to 23) Porsche will be giving a new model its world debut – and various other models their first showing in the USA. The premieres will be broadcast live on the Porsche website www.porsche.com/detroit as webcasts.

The show in the traditional venue of Detroit, nicknamed "Motor City", is regarded as a leading international marketplace and forum for trends and opinions that is particularly relevant for the North American market. Porsche has been experiencing rapidly growing demand among its US customers over the past few months, especially for the new Panamera car line and the new generation of the Cayenne sporty off-roader.

Link doesn't work yet, but might be interesting to watch January 10-23:

What's your guess for the new model debut? Maybe the 918 hybrid? smile.gif

Jalopnik is reporting a 918 coupe/hardtop that ditches the hybrid powertrain for a twin-turbo V8... Race-ready. Purdy, too.

Reports out of Germany today indicate the Porsche 918 expected for Detroit will be race-ready. No word on Porsche's racing plans, but It'll be a closed coupe and have a V8 producing 600 hp instead of a fancy hybrid powertrain.

Is this Porsche acknowledging that the 911 platform is not going to be competitive
against mid engine cars? Maybe its ok for a $650K car to be faster than a 911
when it is not ok for a Cayman RSR (that was verboten) to be faster.

The front looks more Ferrari than Porsche.
Not saying I don't like it, but... stirthepot.gif

Between the doors and the horizontal fan I proclaim this downright pornographic! The presenter of the car at the unveiling had the charisma and enthusiasm of a brick though.

It even comes with some kind of time warp doohickey in the passenger seat!
If you parked something with that in the front seat outside of an airport you would be swarmed by homeland security in seconds!

Gotta love that "racetrack GPS" on the dash in the pic above of the interior.
The 918 is cool. Wonder when it will be ready for ALMS racin?

Gorgeous car. In defense of the presenter, English was clearly not his strong suit.

The flywheel apparatus in place of a passenger seat sort of reminds me of Back to the Future. Where does the plutonium go?

I can understand the Michelin and Mobil links, but what's the Adidas connection? Driving shoes? Or did it just fit the profile on the wing better than a Nike swoosh or Puma thingamahoochie?
