$2000 for car + $7000 for resto + $1000 to BJ + etc = loss

Rear quarter panel looks pulled for tire clearance. $ 12.500.00 normally, this economy... $ 10.200.00 maybe.

With the "new" recovered seats and new carpet, the least they could have done was get a new Mikey's Shift Knob.

In the past as most of you have seen the Porsche community is not loved very much on Barrett Jackson. Unless you have something extremely rare and have the proper credentials, records and provenance the cars do not bring much. I have seen some great 911 & 930's literally given away or what Bob Varsha calls "well bought". 1974 1.8 - I would guess it would not bring over 8K. Those guys know what to look for.

At BJ the bidders are looking for perfect cars. Those are the ones that

get the top dollar, not perfect just quickly get pushed through and sold.

I don't think so ...

Of all the 914s they've sold in the past 10 years, by far the most money was spent on V8 conversion cars.

PlaysWithCars
$7,200. Unfortunately it's not a 2.0, the interior "restoration" didn't use the right materials, and it's still rough around the edges (missing glovebox door, missing speaker enclosures, missing radio, ...) I bet this had an aftermarket stereo w/ door mounted speakers at one time that was removed during the restoration but the completeness of the restoration is questionable given simple things like the speaker enclosures were not addressed. Hard to tell from limited pictures what the rest of the car looks like and if there was good attention to detail.
crxnug
im saying it will sell for $11000 ( not that its worth that), a year or two ago i saw a conversion 911 slantnose (and not a very good one ) sell for $40000+ way more then it was worth, i had just traded my nicely done slantnose conversion for a 1966 mustang fastback and thought i should have brought it to barrrett, just shows something sell for more then its worth if two people want it bad enough
bandjoey
They also have a '58 Porsche Tractor on the list. And what is the red button?
boxstr
To funny. I supplied David with the is 74 1.8 914 that they are selling at BJ. I supplied him with a lot of really great parts. David is known for his attention to detail. Thats what he does best. You could eat off the floor of his shop. If you ever get to the PDX area, it would be worth a stop at his shop on 7th and Couch.
David did not spare any effort on this 914. You should have seen it before he got it,when it was at CAMP. Wish I had some pics.
Anyway I say $10000-12500.

I'm flying to AZ today & will be at Barrett Jackson Tues & Weds. Looking forward to checking this 914 out. I'm not sure I will recognize a 914 that's not in a thousand pieces like mine biggrin.gif

My guess is $9500

RFoulds
looks like it goes off mid-day Thursday. Anyone in attendance that day, maybe you could update us during sale? I will try to follow on internet, but will probably get distracted by work, work work. I hope it goes for good money.

Craig at CAMP,
I don't know the restorer you are referring to, and I'm not trying to throw stones, BUT,
if he is known for attention to detail, why not complete this car correctly before auction?

charliew
I agree, it would embarass me to sell a incomplete car at a big auction like bj. It's kinda like giving up and pushing it out the door in disgust.

8750 Only if the paint is really good and the gaps are straight and the mileage is less than 80k.
boxstr
The pics that you are looking at from BJ were taken the day I was there. That was one month before the car was loaded on the trailer and taken to Scottsdale.
The car was far from complete and to bad it shows in these pics.
When it left there were many more parts added and the car was complete!

Craig at CAMP,

How do you know those pictures are current? For all we know, they could have been taken during the restoration and not reflect the current state of the car at all ...

shades.gif
RFoulds
Craig replied and you are correct. Pics are not current.

But again, If I want top dollar for a restoration and I'm willing to pay BJ Auction their cut, I would want the very best pics possible on the web. I am sure buyers there in person will now see that it is complete and probably correct. But I would want the internet chat before the auction to be upbeat as well.

Lets keep our fingers crossed for this one and hope he gets a good price.

McCrmicks Auction here in Palm Springs sold one last year for over $10k, that should only have fetched $6k at the most. It needed a lot. It all depends on who is in the room at the time.

My friend says the 59 corvette he built a few years ago is also there. 1321.1 It is for sale by the second owner.

The car has some issues, but it is clean. Carpet looks wrong. Radio missing. Strange ignition button, stranger cluster button on the right side of the console. Is the glove door up or missing? Obviously this is a good restorer, but are the numbers matching?

Ground ups seem to be losing their appeal, or am I wrong when the numbers don't match or have a COA? Did not read the whole ad. I am still trying to go to sleep tonight.

Wheels were polished. Instant boner for concours, but a lot of people like them.

74 1.8 is still a hard sell to a big dough collector. They want a 6, and if there is a clean low miles 2.0L, maybe a sale there, but even a good one is only 15k now, and 15K can still buy you issues with a nice driver.

This car would have been 17 to 22k to a Japanese or Euro collector in 2007. Not thinking like that now, are they?

Maybe 10675 because it is not original but a ground up?

This is my final offer on that Hot Wheels 914!

Is it Signal Orange?
