pieces that hold the windshield to top rubber? Do I have to use it or can I just use screws?

hmmm are you sure the screws wont contact the glass? otherwise

Its called butyl (sp) and it is highly suggested

You can buy butyl tape in 15' rolls at Carquest.. I think around $15. Comes in several sizes ... used for installation of the windshield and other things. I use 1/4" for windshield installation.
