I have no backup lights. All of the wiring/bulbs and switch check out.

I pulled the backup switch and noticed that the plunger pin is worn. I have read that this is a common problem.

I'm going to make a new pin.

What is the full length of a new one?

I'll cut the snap ring groove in the same dimension from the "switch" end.

New pins are avaliable. I got mine from High Performance House in California, and i think he gets them from Porsche. It was inexpensive. I found that even with a new pin it still did not have enough throw the turn the switch on and I had to replace the switch as well.Pin

I'll just order one.

Yes, sometimes you just have to find a pair the work together.

Regarding the OPs question, make sure the switch works before you order a new pin. You can test with an Ohm meter/continuity tester. When pin pushes in, switch should close.
