I think this is my first post over here. I am thinking of getting a historic log book for my 6 for circuit racing down here. To be eligible for the earlier group a car can be a run on model of something "manufactured" before 31 December 1969. That category is basically 2 litre porsches and 105 alfas.

The rule makers say the 6 is elgible for the later category, commencing with cars manufactured after 1 Jan 70, but remarkably list the 4 in the earlier category. I suspect that is because the rule makers down here dont have a clue about 914's.

So, does anyone have any information which would convince some illogical dickhead rule maker? Gustl??

Cheers,

SirAndy

A quick look at our VIN database tells me the following:

http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?act...amp;byYear=1970

914-4
914-4 with a build date of 1969:
470.29.00001 - 470.29.01815

914-4 with a build date of 1970+:
470.29.01984 - ...

So the switch from '69 to '70 was somewhere between 470.29.01815 and 470.29.01984

914-6
914-6 with a build date of 1969:
914.043.0001 - 914.043.0059

914-6 with a build date of 1970+:
914.043.0137 - ...

So the switch from '69 to '70 was somewhere between 914.043.0059 and 914.043.0137

My neighbor has #138, I know I looked at his Compliance Sticker for someone else (Owner of #137), so I will have to look again

#0137 would be my /6. It's an early January '70 build.
Wish there were more build dates listed for the /6's, but the stickers were only on US spec cars. Given what Andy posted above, it would be fair to say the first 100 production /6's (give or take) were built in '69 and it seems half were built for the US market,.... the remainder for Europe and the world.

Oh boy, not again ... biggrin.gif

914.043.0001 is mentioned in several places in official Porsche literature as the start of the VIN range, so that's what i'm going with here.

If they never actually build 0001 to 0010, that's fine with me, but so far all i have ever seen to support that is posts on this site by people claiming to have evidence but somehow are not willing (or able) to share that evidence with the public.
