Today I opened up the gearbox on #12 and found that it had:
A-GA-M-S-X

More interesting was the transmission case, it is a later 911 casting.

Always interesting working on these cars. You never know what they pulled off the shelf and used. Usually no explanation is available for what you find.

I just check my other 6 case and you are correct it is a 911 number.

I don't remember what it was like I changed the engine and trans shortly after I purchased the car

Curious as I did M,S,Za. Thought it would be nice to have a -6 5th in there for highways.

I'm itching to see what that short stroke will do with those gears.

May be out your way in April.

what type of cable pull set up 0n #12, #11 used a later 911 box with unmachine push clutch parts adapted to a pull set up, this was due to regular 914-6 boxes not available. picture of the early box is shown in the factory owners manual.

I had a S-X in a Track Car, but it ran out of Revs on the long straights @ Sebring

as the #11 car had vw factory race support , upon inspection gears in the transmission are A,F.M,S, X WITH 904 MAIN SHAFT WITH ZF LIMITED SLIP. the gears were set up to match the power curve of the 906 engine twin engine.
On the other hand the gt gear box of #1543 has a,e,j,q,w with 904 main shaft and zf limited slip (80%) for its rally use

I'd be up for a lunch or dinner. April might be late enough to put the /6 back on the road...
