I've been thinking about this for a while.
With Nelson's 914 on the rotisserie and Luckie's 986 on the lift, I took the opportunity to use a straight edge and a measuring tape to make some basic measurements.
I've never been a fan of the 914 rear suspension, so I've been contemplating 986 rear suspension (along with the rest of the drivetrain) in a 914. I thought I would have to cut the 914 at the firewall to make it happen, but I might not.
The initial survey suggests that removal of the /4 engine mounts and the 914 suspension console may facilitate the addition of some metal that would make this work. The hardest part appears to be the rear upper shock support.
I may regret starting this thread, but I'm having a hard time spending $3k of my money to rebuild a 2.0. I'd rather put the money toward something special.

Here's one that had a late model rear console, trans, etc installed. I remember Ron saying it took weeks to get everything lined up including the engine, trans and all suspension bits.

I don't recognize a single piece of 914 or 986 in that picture.

Joe,
I was just about ready to launch a question wondering if anyone had ever done this. I want to build a -6 but don't relish the thought of spending the cash on a big Porsche air-cooled 6 when more power is available for less money (for the engine). There are still the transaxle issues and the oil system or you trade this out for the tranny that goes with the engine and swap the plumbing over to water.
I'll be watching....go for it!

Click to view attachment I am not using a 986 suspension but am using the 2.7 and cable shifted 5 speed. Rich Johnson built the mount for the nose of the engine, and we used his firewall setup along with it. It fits good but I am modifying the trailing arms to increase space around the coil-on-plug and inner suspension ears. I have alot more pics I have been meaning to post in a build thread but other stuff seems to get in the way. There are similiar projects out there I dont think any are completed yet. I say go for it!

Why only do the rear? What about updating the front end also?

One could simply take a whole Boxster, remove all the body panels and graft on some 914 body panels ...

This what my dad and I were talking about today. I have my fourteener down to the bare sheet metal right now getting ready to do a 6 swap. But why put all that heat behind you when you can put modern technology behind you. If anyone has a link to someone elses site or thread please post it here. This sounds like a great swap. I did a little searching last night and found the same thing. That car is down under in Australia though. But he has a running and driving car as of about a year ago.
