shouldn't the home page give a bit of info as to what this place is and you it is?
it's not a business, it's not a dues paying club.....
when some one gets to the home page what do they see?
go look.... not much info as to what this place is. it deserves better and more.

I disagree. I don't think it needs to say anymore than it does.

Not sure what you would say that can't be figured out in less time it would take to read a mission statement.

I agree that we don't need a mission statement, but:
At least two of the prominent links on the homepage (News and Events) lead to areas of the site that aren't actively maintained anymore. If a visitor clicks those first, they might never find the forum where all the action is.
I'm not suggesting we remove those links - on the contrary, I think they can be valuable if we utilize those parts of the site and keep them current. Of course, our Admins are volunteers and busy folks, so not sure if it's realistic to ask for people to help maintain News & Events Calendar...

Those two sections need some reworking ...

I agree with Troy a bit. I tend to think it should have a little blurb on the home page directly under the Member feature and above the forum listings. Our original mission statement would do it. One sentence:
"We are a member-owned community where people have fun, help each other, and talk about Porsche 914 history, tech, restoration and racing."
Maybe add a "Come on in and join the party"

Ya, but could we include a statement about who not to take advise from? You know fair warning...
