I am planning on attaching fiberglass bumpers to a 914 using dzus fasteners. Any idea what the best fasteners are and where to get them?

There are a few different sizes and styles used....if you like the kind that is typically used to hold fiberglass on that has a two hole flange that attaches to the panel (usually people use screws of rivets to hold the button to the panel) those are called "spring loaded dzus buttons". This style comes in either .500 or .550 long. Typically you use the .550 long for fiberglass. The other style Dzus, the botton actually falls off and you can lose them (these are used for interior panels but I have seen people who use them for fiberglass as well, these have a reach of .500) There are springs and plates to match each style.

There are "Large head Dzus Buttons" too and these are the ones I would use because they are a bit larger and the screwdriver or dzus wrench wont slip out of the slot as easily. They also make "Butterfly Dzus Buttons" that dont require a wrench but this style is not available in large head type.

DZus fastners are old hat. Actually a WW I design. Still used because they are cheap but I prefer CamLock fittings. I used them on my fiberglass cowling and it saw 240mph +. They hold really well. http://www.aircraftspruce.com/menus/ha/fast_1camloc.html

Camlocs are nice and a bit smaller/cleaner looking than dzus.

Can't beat Pegasus for selection and service. If you want some cheap ones (probably not real Dzus brand), Summit Racing sells some in bags of 10 that are very reasonable. I've gotten them from both sources and haven't noticed any real difference aside from price.

I've done business with nearly all of them at some point and overall find Racer Parts Wholesale to be consistently lower for the same stuff. They split the safety equipment off into a different company (Racer Wholesale) years back, but still maintain all of their hardware here.

If anyone really cares to know....Real Dzus fasteners would be being made by Southco (out of Pennsylvania) as they bought the company, Hartwell-Dzus, back a few years ago when I worked for them as QA Manager. Dzus changed hands a few times before that and was owned by a British holding company. Unfortunately I helped Southco move the operations and fabrication to Pa. . Another California manufacturing company that bit the dust as it was too expensive to operate out here.

Probably lots of copies out there as the patents may have expired.
