FYI - Jim at Yellowzincplating.com can only accept small items in batches, like bolts and such. I requested a price recently on some shock tower covers, split calipers, shift plates, 901 transmission mounts, etc.

Jim recommended I use a barrel processor or plate vendor. confused24.gif

Best of luck,

Hi. I thought I should create an account to clear up some confusion. I don't recall the exact situation with Dave's parts but occasionally I hear from a customer with a very large batch or parts with dimensions that exceed my capacities and I suggest they contact a larger commercial plater, as I tend to do "smaller" batches for car restorers.

That said, I get orders of 2 parts as well as batches or two or three hundred at a time. I can pretty much always tell from a photo or two if there is anything that I can't handle.

Study up at Caswell, they sell kits for plating. I have plated the 911 calipers and several other smaller parts for the 914. I bought a 30 a power supply on ebay that is the same one caswell sells that works great. I really like to do most things myself.

Cadmium beats zinc in corrosion resistance. Being a former aircraft mechanic I like the stuff. However, I'm not a big fan of the adverse heath affects. I used to handle thousands of Hi-Loks (Cad plated interference fit fasteners) with little regard until I learned the stuff could kill you.

Hey 914ers,

Forget that CADMIUM can make you STERILE and is toxic. I have another reason to NOT go that way: Years ago, with my 1st 914, I rebuilt the engine and had ALL the engine tin CAD PLATED. It looked GREAT for a while, but then DID RUST! I was very disappointed!

Today, I can only think about POWDER COATING!! It's a very tough plastic coating and is darn near indestructible. I set my self up with a powder coat spray kit and an old electric oven in my garage, but there are those who can do it for you.

I can suggestion is a very honest guy: Barry in N.C., who is a site member and powder coats tons of Porsche parts in any color, at diehardcamaroguy@yahoo.com.

Best,
Terry
