Has anyone ever tried a 914 in a rally racing form?

Can it be made strong enough...rear shock towers etc..

Thoughts?
I have a spare shell looking for ideas...

There are pictures in Vic Elfords Porsche performance driving of some 914/6's set up to rally, with studded tires and everything. Not sure if they were successful or not...

Not really a rally car, but how 'bout this?

Chris, is that v.3.0?

There have been rallye versions of the 914
The factory took 2 or 3 of them to the monte carlo rallye
They ended pretty high, specially if you consider the fact that the drivers had absolutely zero testing miles with the cars
They hadn't actually driven one 'till they arrived at the start biggrin.gif
From what I recall, the drivers hated the "snap-spin" oversteer of the car

cheers,

Jeff Zwart (Road & Track photogapher) preped one and ran in a Mexico to Canada rally a few years ago. It was written up in PCA Pano.
Looked like a lot of fun.

What about rally-cross? Our local car club is putting on at least one this year. My car wouldn't be ready in time and I'll be out of town that weekend, but who knows for the future.
VegasRacer
The SCCA here in Vegas has half a dozen Rally Cross events each year.
Usually a mile long course on a dry lake bed.
We do have some serious fully prepared rally cars show up.
There is also a group of locals who go to Avis and have code named the events 'the rented neon challenge'.
Just hose it down, dig some of the rocks out of the wheels and turn it back in. cool.gif
