I am curious what weight diferance there might be between the many variations.
From different model years, in stock configuration, and asst. 6 conversions, to 918's.

My 73 2.0 with front and rear sway bars weighed in at 2230 pounds.
That was with tools, spare parts and other small things in the car.

My former 73 2.0 was 2142lbs in street/stock configuration, wet w/o driver.

My current car was 1949lbs last time it was weighed, also wet w/o driver, but I've changed about a zillion things since then. IIRC it needs to be 2049 to be POC class legal, so therefore that's how much it weighs now

My 1970 914-6 3.0 with front oil cooler and fiberglass bumpers/rockers weighed in @ 2440lbs with driver and 1/2 tank of gas on the CAT scale at the truck stop. I think I weighed around 220lbs back then, and I'm not really sure how accurate the truck scales are with lower weights. So ~2200lbs.

i just read 'em folks, not interpret 'em.
that's what it shows - 914.4 30 Kg more than a /6...

i don't believe it, and i don't have a 914.4 owner's manual to see what they claim there. (but i can verify that the US and Euro /6 owners' manuals agree, within a couple of Kg...)

this chart is my corner weights from our first race at sebring with me in the car.

has 8 pt cage and full steel bodywork and bumpers.

i can probably lose another 100lb getting rid of steel hood, trunk, and bumpers.

My '73 weighed in at 2130.. That is with targa top, race seat, passenger seat, fire wall carpet, nothing else in trunks, etc...Oh yes, includes a full roll cage.

The '70-'72 -4 weighed less than the '73-'74, which weighed less than the '75-'76. The -6 presumably used the lighter early chassis, so that compensated some for the heavier engine (75-150lbs, depending on which numbers you believe).

Remember that a full tank weighs 100lbs more than an empty one. Car and Driver listed 1950lbs for a '70 1.7 in their first review in 1970, probably with an empty fuel tank.

On weight loss, my memory of 5 years ago had the front and rear trunk lids at 30lbs apiece, with replacement fiberglass ones at 10lbs each. Chrome bumpers were 35-40lbs each, with 5lb fiberglass replacements. 100lbs would be close.

If memory serves... the bumper savings is not as significant as that.. I believe that my stock early style bumpers were 22lbs, and fiberglass were 11lbs.... (I'm sure 75-76 would be more though)

Chris, at your posted figure.. did you have glass lids?

70 1.7L no carpets little more than that but may be lookng at a diet. Given I tip the scales at 154.5 I already got you guys beat.

you know the difference between european pounds and american pounds, do you?
when converting KG to pounds, make sure you don't just double the number (which is the european way) but instead multiply it with 2.20462 ...

actually, the DIN curb weights in the references i quoted are 914.4 970 Kg, 914.6 940 Kg.
the 914.6 owners' manuals showed a difference of a couple of Kg between the US and Euro.

(i still don't believe a '70 914.6 is 30 Kg lighter than a comparable /4, but i don't have a 914.4 owners' manual to check, and there is no 914.6 Spec Book ...)

mostly when i convert i multiply by 2,2 and leave those last few grams to the wind ...

Mines a 3.2/6 it weighs 2050, and has a full cage. Still has metal lids. Soon to get Pauls nifty doorskins (Ill cut out the door beams then). Im probablty going to get glass lids soon, Ill rescale it after all that stuff is installed..

I just weighed mine a few days ago. It's a 70 914 with a 2056, 2.0 motor out of a 74. It has no sound deadening material, was weighed with a full tank of gas, and no driver. 2042 lbs.

well -- lessee -- '73's got door beams that '70's didn't have, but i'm still having a hard time explaining 914.6 curb weight of 940 kp vs a /4's 970 ...

Mine is 2980 lbs. But that was before I pulled out the unused shifter, shift rod and center console, saved 11lbs wow!

800 lbs of that is batteries...

Otmar, I would think that by now you would have taken your trunks out and put solar pannels in by now....



Just a thought.

You don't get much from just the trunk and hood, maybe a few miles range per day. I put them on my house instead
