The 1969 911T engine didn't have bearings in the case for the layshaft. However, the 1970 911T (2.2) did.

Some upgrades were done to the 2.0 engine in the 914/6. For example, in 71, they added piston squirters.

Did the 2.0 case in 1970/71 get the bearings for the layshaft, or does the shaft run in the case without bearings? Bruce Anderson's book doesn't specifically address this.

I didn't know so I asked Bruce...

Hi Eric,

Yes, they put the layshaft bearing into the mag case in 1969. I have never seen a real 914/6 crankcase without the layshaft bearing.

I just finished rebuilding mine, and it had bearings on that shaft. It was the original '70 engine

Thanks Eric... thanks Jack.

Is Bruce on this board?

That's good, I had been wondering the same thing for a
few years. My motor had been rebuilt by the PO, but it
didn't mention anything about modifying that area on the
build sheet.

I don't think Bruce is on the board but he should be. He's a BIG 914-6 fan after owning one for years.
