Somebody please explain this ranking system and the boxes below peoples' names on here. I recognize that more boxes generally means higher expertise but I'd like to hear from somebody who knows what they're talking about. Maybe one of you guys with a lot of boxes?

"expertise" has nothing to do with it.

It's simply number of posts, broken down like this:

You wanted someone with a lot of boxes! You got him.
