" My garage neighbor came over to tell me he had a Porsche engine and wanted
to put in a VW beetle. He asked me to look it over and I found that it was a
914 2.0L motor and gearbox, not a 356 variant, When I told him that it's not
gong to fit easily into a bug, he offered it to me for $950. He told it came
out of a running car, and I can't use it but perhaps some list member would
like it. We can easily put it on a pallet for shipping. Engine/transaxle is
located in Southampton NY. "

Ummm,

That engine will fit into a bug. Needs a cooling system, exhaust, and some other stuff.

Send him over to:

Shop Talk Forums

Have him search around a bit. Somebody sells a book on how to do it

from the original post:

" it's not going to fit easily into a bug "

if it needs a cooling system, an exhaust, and other stuff, i gather you agree it won't fit easily into a bug. especially if "it" is extended to include the 5-speed transmission.

i've seen a small-block Chevy in a bug. it didn't fit easily ...
