Is 1.7 1679cc 914 elgible for FSP? I was thinking a cheap fun car would be a FSP 914 if it is in fact in that class. I was looking at June Fast Track and see they say cars not classified between 1.7 and 3.0. So assume cars up to 1.7 go to FSP? Isnt a 914 technically below 1.7 with 1679cc motor? So would it default to FSP?

I was thinking the car with headers and street prepared setup might just be a sleeper FSP car if its legal. It be a fun car too as you could keep it street legal. And with 1.7s being cheaper I just wonder? Clearly if would be a HP underdog but I dont know of many cars in that class right now that have potential of dipping down around 1800 to 1900 lbs.

I was thinking of buying 1.7 start in FSP then go to GP in later stages.

Oh Dang it is. I'm going to write SEB and see if the 1.7 can be moved to FSP.

The 1.7, 1.8 and 2.0 are all on the same line in DSP. I have written two letters trying to get the 914 moved to FSP which will be GSP next year. No luck. They want to see how it does in DSP before moving it.

Well I just wrote them too. I hate the wait and see attitude they have sometimes. The 1.7 car isnt that far off from performance in the 912. I'm tempted to build a FSP 912 too. They just seem to be over priced right now.

I think they are creating SSP instead of GSP but I could be mistaken - Did you see June fastrack.

I looked over it quickly. The problem with FSP with a 1.7 is the Honda's make 140+whp and weigh under 2000#. You would be luck to make 90whp from a 1.7. But it would weigh 1700# with a 1970 chassis.

I think the 1.7 with right setup could be very close to those hondas. We have a guy who has podiumed in a Mazda 3 that weighs like 2700 lbs. I'm pretty sure a well developed 1.7 could beat him. I was probably being consvative on weight. I havent seen too many well developed 1.7 cars. Funny enough my dads then my 1.7 was squaley in SP specs back in the 70's. He had bigger bars, Koni Sports, upgraded torsions and springs, 7" wheels, motor was still fairly stock. It scooted very nicely. My 1.8 car with just a header was fairly quick too. If you get rotaging weight out of the 1.7 it spins up nicely.
