I have a 73 2.0 and it is all original, in the Pelican parts catalogue they are advertising, "Ignitor® Electronic Ignition,Fits Bosch 205, 009 & 050 Distributors", is that what I have? I have read the ongoing debate re. Petronix versus points and will keep a set of points in the glove box as that has been recommended by pretty knowledgeable people.

That pertronix works for pretty much every VW/914 distributor.

I don't think that is the correct Pertronix for distributors with vacuum advance and retard, which the stock distributor has. If you use it, you may need to grind a little off the bottom of the distributor rotor so that everything moves freely.
I have heard, in the past, of a Pertronix with a -V on the end of the part number that is correct for the stock distributors with the vacuum advance and retard mechanism. I do not have any direct experience with it, though.
