all i can add is the engine sounded like a 4 cylinder and it was being driven carefully by the gentleman owner.

who know's more? appeared to be very cleanly and professionally done.

Is that some version of a beach boys slope nose conversion?? Anybody, Buhler, Buhler? I'm not fond of those myself but whatever blows your skirt up,
I guess.....I wonder how they "re-stiffened" the chasis after cutting off the targa rear?

What are the chances you'd see _2_ metallic aubergine cars driving in formation ? Only in _that_ Bay Area, I guess...

Looks like late model Arena Red to me biggrin.gif

I had a Chalon like that, there was a shop is Cali back in the 80s who was converting them, I think his name was Speedster Wolf, they were writen up in VW & Porsche magazine..

There was another company in the 90's that did those conversions. Something like Red Dog or Mad Dog Racing. Somewhere I have a VHS tape they sent me, upon request. They also mailed me some really poorly photo-copied product literature. They were doing V8 conversions too. You could usually tell their kits because the shape of the rear fender arch wasn't just right.

Just tried to Google 'em and turned up nothing. Now I guess I'll have to dig through my old "reference materials" to satisfy my curiosity.

Red Dawg Racing, they may have been in Arizona?

Beach Boys Racing in L. A. did convertible conversions.

Never heard of Speedster Wolf, but it doesn't surprise me that a number of different places did the conversions.

Red Dawg Racing I believe was in the High Desert, Tehachapi,
in California. They also made a strange engine cradle for the v8 conversions.

When I get a chance, I'll dig out the VW & Porsche magazine with the article about the 914 he turned into a vert for his daughter and talked about a white Chalon that would be next..
This turned up on google..
Speedster Wolf , aka Wolfram Berger , lives in Reseda, California.

Regardless of who did the conversion, it does look like a quality job.
