I have a new set of 2.0l intake and exhaust valves (not sodium filled). I was planning on rebuilding a set of heads but I changed my plans. The part numbers are as follows:

039.109.611L Exhaust Valves
039.109.601G Intake Valves

Price-
4 exhaust valves- $40 (plus $5 shipping)
4 intake valves- $40 (plus $5 shipping)

if you buy both sets- free shipping

Can 1.7 heads be machined to accept these valves? More generally, I am thinking about modifying some 1.7 heads to at least accept bigger cylinders. Everyone seems to start with 2.0 heads, is there a reason for this other than not having to cut for larger cylinders?

Anyway more to the point, if these will work with 1.7 heads then I'm definitely interested in the valves, and if it's a fool's errand to start with 1.7 heads and I should start with 2.0 then I'm probably still interested.

Whether or not to start with 1.7 or 2.0 heads depends on the application. Up to 180cfm with the 42mm intakes is possible with a reasonable amount of work. That matches what the stock 2.0 heads have unaltered.

Bear in mind you will have to have new seats installed (a must for all T4 heads being rebuilt anyway) and port work.

These stock 2.0? Are the sodium filled more desirable?

Yes they are stock. I am not certain but I thought the sodium filled valves were supposed to dissipate heat better however I do not think it was actually that big of a difference. A major con for sodium valves is the cost.

I should clarify- they are the same size as stock. The stock was by a different manufacturer.
