first of all, welcome to the club! smilie_pokal.gif

second, you posted this in the wrong forum. wink.gif
no one is going to see it here ...

i'm going to move your post to the main forum so it'll get some exposure,
also, we have a separate classifieds section here, i encourage you to post there too
as many of our members check in there frequently.

you can get to the classifieds by clicking on the link on top of each page.
make sure you choose the "parts wanted" section there.

I thought all early fogs were the same (70-74)?
Same as the targa tops.....

wink.gif very subtle differences on the interior side of the targa top.
East coaster
.........and the early targa tops weigh about 5lbs less than the later tops. I never noticed until I put my '71 top next to my '74 top and did a side by side comparo.

Crap! I replaced my olde top (1972) with a better condition one, without knowing there was any differences. I am not sure if the replacement is new or old style. How can I tell now? Anyway, I don't care about the weight but is there a difference in fit?
Porsche Rescue
Only difference I ever noticed was that the '70 top had no headliner, 4 or 6.

My understanding (correct me if I am wrong), is that although the early top itself was essentially identical to the later one, the hold-down fittings used were slightly different from the later, improved type. The early top also had no headliner, as has already been mentioned. I seem to recall having stumbled across this information in Hussey's "914 Tech Tips" book, somewhere.

I think there is also a subtle difference in the structure of the inside rear edge where the weather stripping mounts, this may account for the weight difference, my early top has much less material there.

agree.gif Yes, I believe you're right. I've been too lazy to pop the lid off my 75 914-4 and compare it directly with the lid on my 70 914-6, but I seem to recall that the lid on my 76 914-4 felt like it weighed significantly more than the 914-6's lid. Perhaps one of these days I'll summon up enough presence of mind to do an actual comparison (never do today what you can put off till tomorrow!).
Cheers, 6fahrer
