Hey fellow teeners,
I apologize for taking an extra week to post this info but the wife & I were on vacation and off the grid last week.

Anyway as I had mentioned in an earlier post, we entered our beautiful 1970 Willow Green 914 that we purchased from Jerry Mahoney last month in the PCA Zone 8 Concours two weeks ago and took third place in our division! smilie_pokal.gif

My hat is off to Jerry Mahoney and his buttery smooth paint job which is what got us third place and is the thing we get the most compliments on.

There is one small drawback to all of this, I have created a concours monster because after the awards were presented my wife leaned over to me and said "honey, if we would have just cleaned a little more we could have kicked everyones ass in our class and won first place!" which translates into "you didn't clean the car enough and you better do a better job next time and get me a first place trophy or else!"
After the next concours I will let you all know if we got first place or if I'm sleeping on the couch for a while!

Excellent! Once the CW curse grabs you, you'll never be able to drive your 914 without it being spotless... Time for the spouse to chip in on the effort.

Post a few pics please.....

Sorry car porn fans I'll post some pix tonight!

Here's a few of our 914 in "action" at the Concours............I guess just sitting around looking good is "action" for a Concours car. shades.gif Click to view attachmentClick to view attachmentClick to view attachment[attachmentid=270

Any pictures of the 1st and second place cars?

Very nice car!
My first 914 was that color stock.
I have always wanted another.

Ok, is this an urban myth?
I thought that 914s were never manufactured with the Porsche emblem on the front hood.

If true, how did the judges miss that?

The first place car was the red 73' RS clone next to me and I honestly cannot remember what car got second.

And it is not an urban myth! There were no 914-4's or 914-6's with hood badges installed at either the Karmann or Porsche factory.
Many of the hood badges were installed by Porsche/Audi dealers as a marketing tool and the rest were installed by individual owners.

And since my 914 is restoration driver and not original concours I got zero deduction for the badge even though it's a black & burgundy 73+ version and not the early black & orange version.

they did not throw geenie out for having no sail trim and roof painted body color?

: )

Who was it that was asking if they should get rid of the side markers before paint?

They should just take one look at those pics above and they will be convinced.

Beautiful!

Also, is that an exact match to the willow green?
Factory paint, or remix?

You might have convinced me to NOT go with viper green or kawasaki ninja green.

Stu,
I couldn't agree more about removing the US side marker warts/lights, smooth sided looks so much better.

Jerry Mahoney who is also here on 914world is the guy who built & painted the car and would be the best guy to get the paint information from, but I can tell you that Willow Green (L63K) is the original factory color on this chassis even though it's a 70'
