I have a small package of Carrillo Rods (9lbs) that I need to ship to Sydney...both UPS.com and FEDEX.com estimate the charges to be approximately $120 from a drop off location here to the Sydney International Airport. Does anyone have any insight on a method of shipping that is reliable and cheaper...

Unless you are in a real hurry to get the parts there, use USPS
Saves you lots 'o money...

you can calculate the cost online at www.usps.com

Cheapest way and slowest way is by boat. e.g. Matson shipping lines. Save the most money if you pack it up, take it to the shipping office at the dock and guy on the other end picks it up at the shipping office at the dock there. For $120, you could probably send multiple crates to Austraila that way.

They go by volume, not by weight. Downside is that it is sloooow. Upside is that it is cheap, you cut out the middle men in the shipping.

I use USPS to ship to Austrailia - usually runs about $35 for a small package.

USPS air mail is as good as any. You should speak to the person you are sending it to about the declared value of the goods.

I just had some euro tail light lenses shipped over via USPS Airmail. They tok 9 days L.A. to Sydney. Cost was US$34 for a 4lb box - my mate Dan insured them for US$600, after I told him how hard it was to find them. (The guy I bought them from wouldn't ship international).

I've had things shipped FedEx Economy Air, which lets you track your shipment (Look Honey, my front indicators are in Hawaii!!!), but I think for anything over about 5kg or that wont fit in a FedEx Box, the post office is the way to go.

Cheers,

Rick
