Full Version: Who has fixed rust here?

Like many cars mine has rust at the joint between the front fender and the body at the top of the door jam. Who has fixed this and how did you do it? It looks like mine has been "fixed" before but they did a poor job and it definitely has more rust. I have seen several instances of people taking the fender off but I'll be honest that makes me a little queasy. Here are some pics: (these are passenger side but drivers is similar)

I had to do both sides on my car. I only cut out that corner of the fender to do it.

Cut it out. Make a template in paper or cardboard. Cut out a patch from good sheet metal. Weld it in. Grind till it's pretty.

That's the short version. There is a lot of learning and practice too.

Nice Work! Did you MIG the exposed body metal back on or did you TIG it? I have heard (but never actualy seen) that MIG welds tend to show up though the paint when the car heats up. Have you experianced this?

I used a MIG. I haven't experienced that problem though. unsure.gif
