I torn down the 2.0 just bought recently and was curious as to what these polished or machined bands on the pushrods are?
CrashDown
It almost looks like they were turned on a lathe.....

This is the 3rd one in a month.
The spring holding the the pushrod tubes was not installed correctly and touched the pushrods.

Check mine out:

I noticed the same thing on my engine. Does anyone has a picture of the proper way to install the spring? Does it holds the tubes up or push them down?
McMark
The simplest description of how it should be installed is that the spring should in no way be inside the pushrod tube. The intent is for the spring to push the tubes back toward the case. I can take a picture tomorrow.

upper flat sections go into the rocker arm holders notch on the bottm
the other flat part pushes on the bottom of the push rod tube EDGE...not inside it.

It really only feels right if its installed one way...

Here is a picture of how mine is installed.
but if the damadged was caused by the spring then it would be on one side of the tube since rhe tube does not rotate and the spring is not wrapped around? confused24.gif

The tube rotates, and so does the valve.
that is by design so it will create even wear on the rocker arm.

Those springs are completely wrong.

Ppetion, you springs are not installed properly. They will not hold the tubes in place. The tubes can and will back out and cause a massive oil leak. The straight section of the spring sticking in the hole needs to be on the lower edge of the tube. Grab it with a pair of needle nose and pull it out and down till it rest on the edge of the tube. As I look again, I see the spring is on the wrong side of the pushrods. They are rubbing on the rod and could eventually cut the rod in half.

Bottom of the push rod tube..touching the bottom of the head.
You need to pull the rocker arms and flip that spring to the other side of each of the push rods....

Took some good pictures of the wire install.
The wire should be sitting on the lip of the pushrod tube, not inside. It should be below the pushrod, not on top of it.

The wire clips into the notches in the rocker arm shaft collars (all of which should be pointing down).

That's exactly where they should be, McMark! Thanks for the pics!

And, just to be clear, the TUBES do not rotate. The PUSHRODS do, and that's why they wear all the way around when the soft aluminum rod rubs on the hard steel spring.
