How are these oil adapter plates used? It is obviously an adapter plate so you can use an external cooler form the stock cooler location however is this type of setup any good? Are there other modifications that are needed to run this? Are there any problems with this setup?

unless you're doing something extreme with your motor, i'm not sure why you'd want a full-flow external oil cooler. That is, of course, unless you're looking for a project and you think that would be fun. (100% legitimate BTW)
Another option to enhance cooling is to supplement the stock oil cooler and not replace it by using a thermostatically controlled "sandwich plate." This adapter will engage the aux cooling circuit when the oil gets above a certain temp (most are set for 180* I think). The sandwich plate gets installed between the oil filter console and oil filter itself -- sandwich plate threads onto engine, oil filter threads onto sandwich plate. Mocal makes this, among others.

I prefer the sandwich adapter because you get to keep the stock oil cooler.

I use the sandwich adapter. Easy to install. Works fine. Unless you will be racing a lot and will experience some really hot temps, I think this would work for you.

Thanks for the info. What kind of headers do you have?

+1 for the sandwich.
Just an FYI the turbo Volvo mide 80s used the sandwich plates and can be had at wrecking yards cheap. I think i payed 20.00 for the hole set up including the oil cooler.
