NPC but its a T4 engine

Put an engine in an 80 vanagon, long story, it had a bastard T1 CT engine that blew.

The engine is a 2.0 with 1.8 heads, stock carb and cam, stock (used, checked good, new O-ring) oil pump.

It runs perfect, idles good, head temp spot on 350, humping it up some big hills it got up to 375 but it was back to 350 on the flats. No temp gauge but I don’t burn my hands on the dipstick.

At start-up it had over 60lbs, once warm it drops to 5lbs idle (with idiot light on) and 30-35lbs at speed. I put a booster spring on the relief valve no change.

I took the gauge off and put a stock idiot light sender on…no idiot light.

So any thoughts??????

Test it with a mechanical gauge on the engine.

Test it with a mechanical gauge on the engine.

Just tried it…same thing. OK on start-up, low warm.

One thing I just learned though, the VDO gauge is a total slug compared to a mechanical gauge.
