Just wanted to share my joy. I won a pair of 911 sc calipers for $15 on ebay.

Nice catch!

cheers,

Thats a good buy! Clean em up and prepair to resell them.

If you buy a complete front suspension, most likely they will have calipers and rotors. But 15 bucks for A caliper (I assume A because its SC calipers..) is not bad! Check the bore's when you get them to find out what you have. I am running A calipers on the fronts, Plenty of power.

Yep they are the orginal A calipers. I have a couple of different people offering me the struts and hubs with the 3.5 spacing so I might be able to use these, but I also might be able to get some Aluminim S calipers for cheap so I might use those instead
MXMARK
I have the S calipers on the front . Let me know how the A calipers feel I may want to find some to a try out . Good job on the find. What are the S calipers new like 1200 or something I don't know. Thanks Mark
Andyrew
A calipers are fine. I have no trouble locking them up with 225's on all four corners. Granted the fronts lock before the backs...
jgiroux67
The price I saw S calipers for was like $2300 which is the most rediculous thing I've ever heard. From what I've heard they have the same stopping power as the A's but are alot lighter.
Andyrew
Define alot....

It IS unsprung weight though. Whatever it is, If you can get them very cheap, get them. But dont be looking for them, you have A calipers and they will give you plenty of stopping power... Heck, I would have given you a ride, BUT I have no engine in right now.. lol.

Nother couple weeks.

Oh ya I wouldnt spend much at all on them. The A's are definitaly fine for me, but if I can get S's for cheap than why not? I could always rebuild and sell them for alot.
Andyrew
Or give them to me...

How cheap is cheap?

Honestly if I where to upgrade from A calipers it would be 944 turbo calipers.

The rears are a problem though... You gona run 914 front calipers on the rear? Or going to use stock rears and space em?

Andrew

I havent decided for the rear yet. I suppose i could just use the stock ones for now. What options are there for the rear so that you can still keep the hand brake(cause that is VERY important to me when I want to add a little extra fun)
Andyrew
Little extra fun is not advised.

Given the position of the handbrake, I would NOT do handbrake slides or such. Could prove very dangerous unless you know exactly what is going to happen. Its not like an arcade where your rear swings out... This is reality, things happen.

Handbrakes are for parking, and parking only. If your on any type of hill, use your handbrake. If your clutch is going out, it could slip and cause your car to start to move.. Dont ask me how I know.. I always use my handbrake parking. Period.

ANYWAYS...

I have stock rear calipers with a spacer in them allowing for vented 911 rotors. Thus allowing for 5 lug stuff.

Simple and effective.

As mentioned I wouldn't seek out S calipers unless you stumble over them at a very low price. They were or are listed at around $2000 each new, which is ridiculous. You probably wouldn't get a lot for a rebuilt set either, as most know there are more modern choices for less money.
jgiroux67
Just got the calipers today. DAMN these things are alot heavier than I expected them to be. There like 15 pounds each or so it felt like. I will need to clean them up and rebuild them.
What all is in the rebuild kits?
davep
Mostly just the piston seals and dust boots. It does depend on the source of the kits.
Andyrew
Yup, them suckers are heavy... (should have shown you the bmw 320i calipers I have, they where an experiment....)

What do you expect though? There iron...

Rebuild kits are everywhere... I tink I bought mine from PP, but everyone should have them... Includes seals, dust covers, clip. I dont think they include the little o seals so save them.

Do you know if the porsche shop in modesto or the one in ceres would have them?
