Also, I think the car may be running rich. When I uncapped the muffler, the inside of the pipes and caps were solid black. I can't imagine that's the way it's supposed to be.
not sure what you mean about measuring fuel...
if you mean setting the float level, yes - if they're too high, it can make this problem worse...

muffler isn't the best place to look for rich/lean...
pull a plug. better still check it with some kind of gas analyzer, but a plug read will get you in the ball park...
i can get you my carb setup but since i doubt sincerely we have the same venturiis and preatomisers, i don't know how close it'd be for you. also - i still have the open exhaust/track mains in there, they'll be w-a-y rich for the street - and i don't recall what i ran on the street. 110's maybe ...
i have renewed hope that the 911's engine may be okay after all, which means we may still be on for the ECR, and i can bring the Gunson gastester. i don't have much in the way of spare jets, tho - might be able to scare up the set of street jets i once ran ...
