Can anyone tell me the dimensions of factory fog lights and or Camp914 pilot lights? confused24.gif

Depth & diameter etc.


After a bunch of poking around, all I have seen is everyone doing the same thing or adding large bolt on rally style lights.

Update:

Dropped the $ and got a set of Speaker 4.5" high end LED lights (Hi/low switchable)

Took a ratty set of fog housings:

Having run real Hid projectors before, the light output is just about a bright.

I would say that the sharpness of the light is not on par with HID projectors.

Matt, I'm doing the same as you are, Looking for a cool alternative to the dim factory Hella ones. I know the lights are 4 1/2" in dia. and the pilot 193c's seem to work because they have a shallow housing and a similar mounting bracket.
The limitting factor is the grill opening and depth.
I'm still looking and I'll let you know if I find a cool fit.

I am considering buying some cheapo 4.5" fog housings, and retrofitting some bixenon projectors in them. The depth is the tricky part.

I found a company that makes dot legal LED headlights.

The cool thing, is that they are releasing a new item that fits in the factory fog locations of a 914: http://www.jwspeaker.com/products/headlights/#product=500051

These are one-off (not mass produced) lights, and I found a supplier that can get them for $189/each for the low beam & $219 for the low/high beam model.

Looks like these lights will also work with the Hella 500 brackets from Rennmental.


The lights have a sharp cut-off, and could be a good option for those who have deleted factory headlights. (yes I know headlights that low are not technically legal)


For you flip up guys they make 7" LED lights that would work (just very expensive!)

Yea I saw those, but I am not sure if flood light design would work for the road.

They might be good for no cars around but might glare on-coming drivers for regular driving.

I bet those are even cheaper than the ones I was inquiring about.


The vendor I contacted, said that group buy pricing is an option starting at 5 sets and up.

I have the Camp914 Pilots on the Red car, and can't adjust them low enough so I don't get highbeamed by oncoming traffic, and still make them usable. If I were to do it again, I'd go with refurbing a set of factory fogs. The mounting is just too low to be any good as driving lights.

That's why I think these lights will work well. They have a built in cut-off, and can be had in a high/low beam switchable model.

If you want driving light, add on some Rennmetal Hella brackets.

7" are expensive...that is per light.

I am getting pricing right now for a group buy on the fog size (since there are some interested people)

I asked for cost on 5 pairs & 10 Pairs.

We will see where they come in.

Wow, $535 each makes the LED headlights from that other recent thread look cheap. They were DOT approved too.

Yea wacko.gif , the other ones I think you are talking about a mass produced units (mostly for the US military). This is how they get their price down. I do think the optics are better on the speaker brand though. I think a lot of motorcycle guys use them, as they only have to buy 1!

The fog light size ones are $185 each before group buy pricing, so not too bad.

I just got off the phone with Terra @ J.W. Speaker and asked her " How in the hell do you mount these fog lights? "

She told me they have no mounting brackets, no screws or bolts to connect to, no nothing. confused24.gif I asked her for some idea and told her i wanted them for a 914 application. She told me sorry, that is not what they were intended for. They are for motorcycles or a direct replacment for newer par 36 automobiles.



Now how are we going to mount these little devils ???

Are you sure you were talking about the same model?

Clearly the picture of the Model 8415 shows mounting tabs.

This is a new unit that is being released in November.


Maybe the sales person you were talking to was confused.


Further, I never intended these to be a bolt on solution. As with most non-factory lights, this will take a few custom metal tabs and a trip to the hardware store.

Help with brackets for these lights specifically?

His Hella brackets look like they can be made to work, as the dimensions of these lights are very close to the Hella 500's.

i was looking at model #6045 foglights. the ones you pictured in this thread. i cant find any info on the 8145. In fact on the speaker website, if you type that model # it says no such model exists sad.gif

I have the Camp 914 Pilot lights and have noticed some members have them mounted better than me. Mine are deep in the hole I would like to bring them out farther, how did you do that?

If you're using the brackets that were provided with the Pilot lights, then you will come across that problem where they sit in too far. You need to fabricate (or purchase from Camp 914) new brackets that will allow the new lights to sit correctly.

edit: just re-read your post. Did the camp kit come with new brackets?

edit: just re-read your post. Did the camp kit come with new brackets?

I'll check the box they came in, I just used the existing brackets, I was probably in a hurry as we were going on a little trip and I wanted them installed as it made my wife more comfortable that people could "see us" in the daytime.

You could just put some spacers between he body and fog light & use a longer bolt.

Only reason mine sit farther out is because the LED lights sit farther out in the factory fog light housing.

I have the Camp 914 drivers and use them as day time running lights and can aim them as to not blind oncoming cars during the day. At night I have euro spec H4s with 85/100 bulbs and the output is tremendous and keeps with the vintage of the car. Of course added fused relays and upgraded wiring. cost for the headlights was about $200 inclusive.
