Just got Jake Rabys video today. Havent had a chance to watch it yet but I have a question regarding its relationship to the 2.o 914 motor. The info. on the tape indicates that it applies to the bug, ghia, thing and early (up to '71) bus. The question is "Are all of the motors basically the same internally other than displacement?"

All Type IV engines are almost exactly the same through and through.

The Porsche version of the TIV was not mystical... Its the same engine with a different piston, and cylinder head- thats it in a nutshell...
I hit some aspects of the 914 in the video....
The performance version is getting closer and closer!
Damn it, this is Jake..... Dave logged himself into this workstation while he was here and now it won't let me post under my own user name!!LOL

Don't forget to get a copy of Tom Wilson's book "How to Rebuild Your Volkswagen Air Cooled Engine". It also hits on 914 aspects and is a good and detailed reference.
I got mine from Amazon and it arrived in two days.
I am also excited that Jake was kind enough to help me out with a Cam and Gear and Type 1 Oil Pump. I can' wait to get them.
My heads, case, crank, etc are also progressing at a good Porsche shop. I should be able to start assembly in about 2 weeks. I will be posting pictures as I progress. Feel free to make comments...please!

Were you refering to the 2.0 engine? I always thought that the 1.8 had the same head/piston as the VW. Oh wait a minute, now I am remembering someone saying that the Bus engines had higher low end torque. Oh well, are you making a "performance video", as in "how to build a 125+ hp"? That would be cool, but wouldn't that take away business?

This is Jake again- sorry
None of the sharing takes away business. Hell I'm 6 months behind and ready to do 1/2 as many engines next year anyway!
Sharing the ingredients sells MORE for us, as more guys can easily make it happen with less money, and their friends see it and want more- then they call me.....

Jake, under the "Home, News, BBS, Classifieds, Events Calendar, 914 Info" buttons there is a LOG OUT button. Click on that and you can sign in under your name.

Jake-
I wanna order your video.
Say, have you put on DVD yet?
I looked for it on the RAT page, but didn't find it. Can you put up a link?
BTW- How long will Len need my 2.0 heads when I ship 'em down to you?
Where is your shop? I would rather bring the heads myself so I can oogle all yer stuff. I'm in Alabama.

I have closed my shop to walk in customers completely. I do allow customers that we are in process with to come and see their engine be dynoed, but unfortunately thats all since my last incident with a spy...
send us an email to info@aircooledtechnology.com and we'll sell ya a video for 39.95. The videos are out on DVD and Bug Me offers them, but I do not because there is a chance that they are not 100% compatible with all players, and a refund or sending another video out screws up everything..
You can deal with Len direct if you want, he has his own shop about 60 miles from me. He is open for visitors..
