OK, now I feel like an even bigger asshole for pressuring Brad into telling me what the 'plan' would be for 2005. I have been a club 'member' for one year and 4 days (as long as I have owned a 914), and his explanation to Rick was the first I had seen that explains what the club really is. Some prior comments of 'Brad has a plan' and 'check with the finance committee' are not so.

It's still hard for me to accept that all these 'experts' donate this much free advice with no strings, but so be it. If we can take the heat off Brad and the other admins/experts and throw this damn party next year, maybe we can keep their wealth of 914 wisdom. If anyone else wants to take the reins, step up now. One way or the other, we should meet one more time now. GAF seem like a good excuse.

We should finalize the dates ASAP and post on the main board.
drew365
Meeting at GAF is probably a good idea but I think what we should have learned from the past month is that WCC04 was pretty much one or two persons making decisions and others helping out. There's no need for you to be bowing out. I think the most constructive meeting would be to start having people pick a job that they will focus on and get this rolling. Otherwise we'll be kicking around options for 6 months and nothing will get done.

Score!

Yep...thats true...a dozen or more helped out in various capacities...2-3 of us did most of it.

Trust your gut instinct and run with it. Show us the 914Party SoCal style... rolleyes.gif

It seems the point "B" is trying to make on the main BBS is that although he started this BBS he doesn't want the run everything. He has bigger fish to fry. He gave us all a gift at great expense both personal and financial. He wants to move on to other things but doesn't want to see the BBS go the way of the digi site.

Brad started out with the idea of the WCC 04. He had other projects and obligations that took him away.

Things didn't happen for the 04 event until Jeff came aboard and did his thing. He outlined what he thought he could handle and delegated small assignments to other members. His additude was "this is what I purpose If you agree I'll run with it, if not I'll have to pass."

Howard, You are in Southern California. You have the skills to take charge and do this thing. 05 is in your hands. Just build and we'll come. It's that easy. Don't worry about pleasing everyone. Fuck um. Or as Alison would say tell them to have a fuck! This is a close nit group. After last year people will flock to the gathering.
Brad Roberts
Part of my reasoning for finding a leader: my lack of participation for WCC04. I could only juggle so much and finding the time to "lead" the effort was impossible. Too many changes in life too quickly at that time. I have good idea's. I have never been one to follow through. If you need an idea.. come to me. If you need something done.. find someone else. If you need motivational help.. see me. I have basically given and given to the point where I have no more to give. Looking back, there was only 1 year of my life without 914's in it (1999) and that year I made more money and had more fun than I have had in the last 5 with 914's back in it. I need to dump it again and get my life back on track.

This doesnt mean I wont share my thoughts/idea's on WCC05. I just cannot lead. I will meet with those who want to run the show for 05 at GAF and share what I have learned (good and bad) from all the other 914 events I have attended around the USA.
phantom914
Howard,

I bet that everyone who has participated so far still wants you as the leader for WCC'05. You weren't the only one confused about how the "club" operates so don't be hard on yourself for pressuring Brad. I'm sure the force of the pressure you exerted was like a feather compared to the load of lead bricks that he carries due to this site.

agree.gif I am with him, we want you Howard or I wouldnt have volunteered you in the first place. Yeah, remember? I am the one who stepped up and nominated you in the first place. If you have some frustrations to work out, come on down and you can work on my car in my nice new clean garage where you can actually find any tool you are looking for. Dont give up on us Howard, I will come up to the GAF and meet with you and we can make this happen. We are counting on you Buddy.
McMark
We need other members to be strong during this upset. I'm very worried that this is going to spin out of control and the 914club is going to disappear. I know that the team that has already started on the WCC 05 can make a great event. It just takes a bit of getting used to the fact that it's all up to you.

You can doo eet!
SirAndy
agree.gif with all the above ...

Andy
Toast
Howard,
You're stressing too much. Have a beer and chill. drunk.gif If you feel this planning is pressuring you too much, then feel free to back off a bit.

I'm sure that the rest of us will step up to help you out. Besides, if we are a team of people planning a 914 gathering event, we really dont need a team leader. If everyone volunteering can pitch in something, then it will make the work load and stress on one individual that much less. And possibly more may get accomplished.

On another note, i'm conserned about waiting a month and some change for another meeting. Will this pose a problem for booking a large event?

Anyway, I will try to bring my sample maps, twisty road options, and a sample of the CD im working on for the GAF meeting.

Have a Fuck! w00t.gif

I'll agree with everyone else Howard, You take the lead for WCC2005. We dont need anyone else doing something that your already doing a great job at. Just take it easy, and dont stress out. Were all here to help.

Andrew
Howard

You da man Howard, Any ideas on what we could do on Sunday? Would everyone be interested in a tech session at a garage that works on Porsches and sells parts? Or would that go beyond the vendor independent rule? Or maybe a coastal cruise down from LA through Orange county and down into say Laguna Beach? It would be tough to keep the cars all together through some of PCH because of the weekend traffic. It was just an idea.
VegasRacer
Looks good Howard. mueba.gif I like it. mueba.gif

Any chance of renting one of the Mini Grand Prix places for a 1/2 day?

QUOTE
maybe a coastal cruise down from LA through Orange county and down into say Laguna Beach?

Isn't there a cool race theme restaurant there (car on the roof)?
I forget the name. We had breakfast there as part of a 914 O.A. event.

What about Petersen's Auto Museum on one of the days?

Are we going to do a staged group photo again?
The trip to a special scenic location could be a fun jaunt.
Howard
Scott, John, that's why there are big holes in the agenda Thursday and Sunday. We don't even need to do it as one large group. Nearby is a Golf n Stuff with a go cart track, Jim Hall Kart school (verrry expensive), outlet mall, antique shopping, beaches. We could charter a yacht for a '3 hour cruise'.

Peterson/Coast run to Laguna both involve driving through LA. As we found out going to Canter's, this can be a bitch any day of the week, not good for 914's and other living things.

Staged photo/video drive by. Twisty tour will take us to a great spot near the Rock Store for pass and review video. Then group photo at Paramount Ranch. Ranch was used in a ton of movies as a race track and Charlie Manson has vacated.
seanery
The roads near the Rock Store are very busy on the weekends. I know you know that, but I used to be one of the bikers out there (motor powered). How concerned should we be?
Howard
Sean, right on.
Kanan, Las Virgenes (Malibu Cyn) and Mulholland between them is a bit touristy on the weekends and very well patroled. No playing in this area, just curvy Woodward Ave to strut your stuff. Had a show off rice rocket slide both tires under Suzi last weekend. No harm to rider or Suzi, but a little scuffed fairing paint on his Kamakazi. Worse, the bicycle clubs use it, too, and think they own the road.
BTW, Paramount ranch is just east of there off Cornell. It's the Lazy L (cowboy talk) road.
Howard
Doh, forgot map
seanery
I saw a show recently on HDNet about the Paramount Ranch, there are tours and stuff, right?
drew365
Looks like a good start Howard. My only suggestion is we don't stray too far from the base hotel. Even Paramount Ranch is a good ways. There's plenty of nice cruise spots towards Ojai and Ventura that are a little slower pace than if we stray near L.A.
Andyrew
Mesa likes everything!

Go karting would be fun!

Andrew
Howard
OK, in no apparent order.

Did the Ojai run this AM. Wow smilie_pokal.gif
If you want to map it, 101N to 126E to 5N to Frazier Park. Frazier Park RoadE to 33S to Lockwood Valley RoadW to 33S to 150W. 150 to 101 back to Westlake.
Good news. Great road NO traffic on curvies from Frazier to Ojai through the hills. Sea level to 5000ft back to sea level. Quite cool this AM, never took off jacket. Lots of Pines and decent road surface.
Bad news. It just about 200 miles total, 4 hours including 2 stops to buy and unload coffee. Is that too much? It also parallels some of the route we will take to Willow. But it was so much fun think I will do it again next Sunday, so if anyone wants....

Pretty familiar with Mulholland run. Beach to 2500ft ~80 miles 2.5 hours. 1SE (pretty stretch of PCH) to Mulholland HwyN to Rock Store, Cornell to P'mount Ranch, Kanan to Agoura RdW. Agoura Rd to Westlake BL (23) S to Portrero W Back to 1. Only traffic issues between Rock Store and Portrero Rd. The rest is pretty clear. 2 Hours plus stop(s). I think many folks will want to see the Rock Store, and P'mount ranch is pretty neat. Big grassy area for photo shoot and western town set. We could do both on different days, and both have really great scenery.

Asking for a few volunteers now. Drew, you are the most familiar with Willow and excellent POC procedures, I would like you to oversee the track event. I have all the names and numbers, so let me know if you will accept this 'volunteering'.
Next position is advertising 'chairman'. Not that we all won't work on this, but we need somone with a dynamic personality who knows most of the players. Slits, MikeZ, Bernie? Step up.
Carwash chairman. Nice to do before 'car show'. I have a pressure washer and leaf blower that makes fast work out of it, but we need drying maidens. Scott, you're the man with the ladies, so you are volunteered.
Lagunero, you've been kinda quiet lately. What do you want to do?
Toast, set up drinking events and party games.
On a less fun note, we should have one or more poor suckers who know a lot about teeners to trail the convoys to help strays.

Would like to see all kinds of ideas for 'mini' things to do that last a couple of hours or less. Mini Golf, trivia name that part contest, model car racing, kite flying, tobacco spitting, yada. Name your poison and step up, y'all.

PS. No more 'Why don't we' crap. You wanna do it, you plan it, we'll do it.
seanery
Howard,
Let's make one of the runs a Poker Run. It's a great sponsorship opportunity. I've been researching buying Vegas Casino-style poker chips for home. They'll cost a little over a buck a-piece (min 500), but that is for a 2 sided design. The event logo could be side 1, whoever sponsors the stop could be side 2. I figured 4 stops, so that would give us 125 chips. Charge the sponsors $150 or so per stop and we're covered.

whatdya think?
Howard
Hey, all. Sean just volunteered to set up the poker run. I've never been on one, so please explain the details of how it will work and what day is best. Will you be coming out early to set it up or can it be done from there?

And you may want to look at this for a source.
Chips
Aaron Cox
yes, please describe how a poker run works...
seanery
I've seen those. They don't offer much sponshorsip or keepsake value.

I designed the set in my avatar. They are the same quality/type of chip used in the casinos. The ebay link version are not. Those are plastic. Casinos use a clay/ceramic-type mix that has that, hmmm..."Vegas" feel to it.

The Chip Store is the place that looks best so far.

I haven't actually been on a poker run before, but I hope to make the FFC04 a poker run.

Sorry, I can't set it up from here. Wish I could, but I can't scout the area. Most of what I know is from the Rock Store south to Long Beach.
Andyrew
Wow, 200 miles for a fun run....

Theres gota be alot of stops in between.... And some trailers following (for cars that decided to not make it) with gas, and other stuff. Just a suggestion...

Poker run... Someone explain this? Is this, you run to diff stops, get the chips, get to another stop... first with the most chips wins? Or is it just get the chips, make a stop and leave..

Car wash... whats this for? Money or? Interesting idea though (I personally wont let water onto my car.... seals bad... and I dont like rust) But others it could be fun!

Andrew
Howard
No way out, Sean. You figure out how it works, how far apart stops should be and tell me. I'll scout out the route, or better yet, delegate it to someone wub.gif

Andyrew, stop being such a wimp. My bladder is only good for about 45 minutes so bet your ass we'll be stopping alot. At gas stations even. And bring a tow rope. Car wash will be to raise money for charity (tips) since everyone will want a clean car for the show off time. If you know any starlet types (18 and over, please) bring them as drying maidens. Maybe if you talk nice they will dry your seals icon8.gif

Aaron, I'm counting on you here, too.
Andyrew
It would be hard to bring over a single lady... as I dont have a gf at this moment... I'll see what I can do when the time comes...

Hey, I can stand long rides... But I dont know if some of the lower budget cars (including mine) will stand up.

Andrew
drew365
Howard; I'm up for coordinating the track event. I'll need help to run it but I can make the arrangements etc. Send me the info you have. driving.gif
Howard
Thanks, Drew (guess I have to call you that with all the Andy's around).

Willow 661/256-9140 quoted $2000 full day, $1250 half day weekdays all year long.
They will sell us required $500k insurance for addl $667
Also need EMS. Spoke to Brad @ 760/784-0836. He quoted $70 per hour driver, paramed and EMS truck/ambulance. Not a tow truck, but can haul car off track. Good deal.

Willow has several places that do corner workers, but no idea on pricing. Borrow flags and track map from POC? I'm still not crazy about timing equipment, but your call.
Catering truck or BBQ gang? I can pick up muffins and bottled water from Costco, but ideas on where to get giant coffee urns?

Andrew, don't try to bring one girl, the parents won't let you do that. Get a carful with chaperone smile.gif . Were you planning to drive or tow your teener from Modesto? Even if it doesn't run right, come anyway. It should be a hoot. We had lots of people @2004 without 914's. This is a party!!
VegasRacer
On a poker run there are usually about 7 or so pre-determined places to stop.
At each place you are given 1 playing card.
At the final meeting place you turn in your best 5 cards.
The person with the best poker hand wins.

I will be glad to help Drew with the track event any way that I can. At one time or another I have had a competition race license with PCA, POC, SCCA, VARA, HSR and NASA. I have been an instructor for PCA, SCCA, NASA and Track Quest events.

I know there are several places here in Vegas that do custom chips.
I will gather some info. and price quotes.

kite flying

Now you are talking about something I really know about. I have been flying stunt kites and power kites for over 15 years. I have a stack of 6 (just like in the 2nd picture), a 9 foot flexi-foil, a 7 foot renegade, plus a few others. I am not sure how to make kite flying a group activity. I will certainly be happy to put on a demonstration. If fact, it will be impossible for you to stop me from flying on the beach at the BBQ.
Howard
John, you're gonna hate CA central coast. Afternoon on shore breeze comes up 2 to 3pm just about every day, except when the dreaded Santa Ana's blow backwards in the fall.
Usually 10 to 20kts, no gusts, just steady. Can come back from channel islands without sail adjustments.
Japanese style kite fighting teams? Aerobatic demonstartions? Skeet shooting? ar15.gif

Track. When I last called Willow they were not booking May 2005 yet. If you and Drew stay on them, and we get a firm date on that, the rest of the stuff should be easy. OK, no more micro management wink.gif

Leave it to a guy from Vegas to know poker..

I am so ready. Think we ought to try the weekend 5 or 6 times between now and April to make sure everything goes smoothly biggrin.gif
Andyrew
Howard, I dont know quite yet if im going to drive or tow it down.
I might tow it down if I can borrow my uncles trailer... But I might just drive it.. All depends on how reliable the car is. 04 me and dad where in the 944 and we still had a blast!

You want me to bring a caravan of girls... FROM modesto (5+ hour drive) for a single day??? umm... huh.gif

I'll just see about bringin one when the time comes.. I'll try to make sure she's hot.. laugh.gif

Andrew
Howard
Drew, John, and all. Willow finally responded and we are booked for 5/2/2005. They are sending an info packet that will get posted as soon as received. Deposit refundable up to 30 days in advance.

I will post event dates on main board within the next week or so.
VegasRacer
Great news. boldblue.gif boldblue.gif boldblue.gif
Now we have a firm date to work around.
I guess the next biggie on the list is to lock down a host hotel.
drew365
Howard; that's good news about Willow. When do we have to put up the deposit? Posting the dates on the main board is good to give everyone plenty of notice. I wouldn't talk about events, keeping an aura of mystery is good for the imagination.
Howard
Papers are on the way, but don't think we need to send $$ until 90 days prior to lock it in, and then refundable up to 30 days. Will advise. Hotel not a problem in that area since it will be off season, but I'll give them tentative OK.

Agree dates should be posted now as an announcement (no replies).

'WCC 2005. 4/28/2005 - 5/2/2005. Waterfront Hotel with our own private wing, garden, and parking lot. Party, party, party. Exclusive 914club use of race track facility.'

Sorry, been in sales too long..

After that, is there anything else we should do now, or just hold the whole thing over till after New Year?
Duffster
Drew... (Howard) I'll be more than happy to help with the Track day stuff as I can.
Howard
Duffster - What a guy. Check in with the racers. I'm going to most meet dates now so Trekkor gets his BBQ ready.
