I'm looking at different engine swaps. One that has been suggested by several people has been a rover V8/buick 215. Does anyone have one in their 914? What is involved with this besides what would be with a chevy V8? Does anyone have any websites with someone documenting a rover swap?

why would you want this motor in a 914? I've had two rovers with this motor and they are slow and underpowered. yes I know this was in an SUV, but when the chevy/ford V8's are so readily available I'm not sure why you'd want a rover motor. am I missing something?

It could weigh less and not have the transmission wrenching torque of the Chev, but don't know. Ask this guy..914 3.5

headlights are n the grills....gay

Stick with the SBC. It is the same amount of work as the alum Buick motor barf.gif and MUCH easier to find parts for at every generic parts house.

OMG is that a fordf 150 grill? barf.gif

it's cars like this (front trunk mess) that gives "conversion" cars a bad name sad.gif

I gotcha... illegal in all states with bumper height laws..

WAIT. I know this car... this is the car that had a fuel injected 4 cyl in..

Dr. guy from up north... Lite or something...

Brad Roberts
Maybe not. The "Lite" car had a one piece front hood.

HiJack. Or really, HiBrad. Welcome home. Now that you're not having to run this madhouse, it sure is nice to see you back posting. We need your smarts, delegate everything else smilie_pokal.gif

And nice to see we have trashed yet another eBay car. biggrin.gif

Ha ha.. thanks Howard. I have completely f-'d off all day. Feels good. Feels even better that Andy is in charge now..LOL

I like the overall look of the car... but JESUS.. clean up the friggin nightmare in the front trunk.

doesnt the guy from Gig Harbor or Port Orchard (blue car,Flares) have a buick V6 conversion. I think it's the car that was just wrecked.
He would know all the items your conversion might entail

LS6/914
Actually that car is from Oak Harbor with the v6. However I didnt know that it was damaged. Do what you will with different motors. If you need testimony on the lethalness of a SBC properly prepared I can link you to a customer who runs at Pacific Raceway and torments 911TTs. The heads & induction are mine. Lar. biggrin.gif

These engines seem to have a bit of a cult following. If you do a google search for for Buick/Rover 215 you'll find people converting these into various cars and doing a lot to the engines. They weigh 250-300 pounds less than a small block chevy engine. I guess one would have to weigh the cost of the core engine, the cost of rebuilding, the weight savings, and see if it's all worth it compared to a SBC with more horsepower.

The hot setup to use in this case is to swap the heads for those on a 1964 Buick 300, which is the same basic engine with a cast iron block and a displacement bump. The 300 heads are still aluminum, however, and will bolt to the 215 block. It is possible to drop the crank and heads from the 300 onto a 215 short block and get a 5.0 liter all aluminum V-8 that weighs about 310 lbs fully dressed.
