History

Super clean and well maintained garaged car. No rust problems. Only a few owners, no major modifications, very orignial. Was used as a daily driver, very reliable.

A joy to drive. No dings or body issues. This is a very classic and simple car. No automatic windows, no ac, no powered anything. All original, simple and working.

The 912 E is a rare car; Porsche produced this model after the shock of the first oil crisis, a fuel-economic version of the 911. It offers the body, the suspension, the brakes and the transmission of the 911 2.7 and the (comparatively) easy and inexpensive to maintain engine of the 914 2.0. Only 2000 left the factory.

Tests in 1976 showed that the 912 E performed quite well against its bigger brothers (even being faster than the Turbo in the lower RPMs). The 1976 Car & Driver test report on the 912 E and the 1976 Turbo had this to say about the 912E:

"The four-cylinder Porsche 912E, on the other hand [as compared to the Turbo Carrera], is your prototypical road car. Leaping into and driving the 912 after thundering around in the Turbo Carrera is not nearly so disappointing an experience as one might imagine. The 912 is comfortable where the Carrera is harsh, rational where the Carrera is excessive."

Naturally, the 912 E is a softer powered car. But the handling is better than that of any 911 of its age because of its lighter engine and better balance. It is an extremely forgiving vehicle and great fun to drive.

Very low maintenance. Air cooled means you don't have to maintain a cooling system. I live in a hot climate (100+) in the summers, and the car runs fine, no problems with overheating.

I used to think the '76 912E was a waste of time, but now I like 'em. Anyone nearby?
