Well.. on the bright side.. it looks "mostly" surface rust. Probably some good donor parts left.

Ummmm, if I had x-ray eyes I don't know if I would go around looking for rust on cars, I think I might be watching EVERY girl walking down the street acting like my avitar.

hehe

Either way, If it's got tits or wheels, it's gonna give you trouble. tongue.gif

the guy that cut that piece out is going to make a patch piece. the rust certainly isn't as bad or as extensive as the recent postings. but like a few seen lately, as i started pulling parts off the car the problems became appearent. it's what you can't see that floors you.

since i've cleaned the engine compartment and the areas under the shelves in the 73' i realize how good it "looks". now if i can find my xray-specs (the ones that were for sale in the back of comic books) i'll know for sure.

Only gives you trouble if you are "involved" with either. For example. go to a classic car show. Walk around and look at all of the WONDERFUL, BEAUTIFUL cars there. You don't have to worry about a single one breaking down on you, or getting a door ding from a careless mid eighties Honda driver, etc. Now picture this. Sit down on a bench and watch young girls bouncing their tits around all day long without them knowing about it. hehe. Pretty much the same princible as the car show, just as much enjoyment, and at the end of the day you don't have to worry about a thing!!!!

Chris,
I have double trouble. The car I'm "involved with" has tits! mellow.gif 2 pairs, in fact!!

Hi jeroen,

the right longitudinal of my current project car looks very similar. Same old battery acid problem ... and the PO did the rest .

Do you have any idea how to repair it ?

we could cut one out of a donor car for you and ship it over ...
probably easier to find a good one here in CA rather than in germany.

Hey Benno,

I've dug pretty deep into the 914 so far, and I'd have to say that this part of the car is probably the most complex...

As I see it, I have 2 options... more tube-framing or get a decent roller
No way I'm gonna spend the time and effort to repair this car back to original...

If I'm honest, I'd like to tube-frame it, but... I'm affraid I'll mess up the rear suspension pick up points so the car can't be aligned decently

I have a lead on a roller, but I sorta promised myself to finish this chassis
Dunno, a decent roller sounds pretty good after staring at rust, rust and rust for almost 4 years (and then finding more rust biggrin.gif)

So, to your questions "how am I gonna repair this?"
Not sure yet...

cheers,

Jeroen

Dunno about you guys, but I would use my X-Ray eyes for other purposes. tongue.gif aktion035.gif

Madd-Dog-914, you don't need xray eyes! After Brads swapmeet I went to the Cheese Cake Factory at the top of Macys in SanFran instead of Chevys w/ Brad and the gang. You wouldn't believe the women in the bar! Damn! Even Monique was commenting on my case of whiplash!

Aloha Andy,

thats a pretty good idea. I'm visiting LA in mid of june, so perhaps I can pick up some parts from you guys.

Let me know if you have donor cars available, for cutting out some pieces.

ciao ...
