Full Version: Engine Cross member Jack plates?

On my 1974 1.8 has these plates on the cross member mounts. Are they jack points? I do not see them in the parts diagrams. idea.gif

Nope. Those look like the big washers that are supposed to be used on the transmission ears so the transmission bolts don't slide out of the mounts.

Btw., there was a thread here last week explaining why *not* to use the engine bar to jack up your car. Or the transmission for that matter ...

Looks like whoever had the engine out previous owner got mixed up.

I did not jack up the car using them, but they will be coming off now !

Figured they looked a bit odd there !

I'm afraid to ask.

You know not to get under the rear of the car without additional bracing, correct?

Not knowing how they mounted the tranny should be a safety concern now.

Those were used on the tail shift cars in the same spot. Maybe some one at one time put the car back together from a basket case like I did.

The trans has new Wevo blue mounts.

Have no clue how this got put together.
