I have a set of 914/911 Stainless Steel DOT approved Brake lines that were sent to a customer and opened but not used. Turns out his car is a 72 and takes a different set of lines. What's the difference between the listed 70-71 and 72 ( on up ?? ) .

The 72 and up need the groov in the fitting to slide the U-clip into on both ends. the earlier ones only need it on one end because the other has a different mounting.
