Got my 1911 w/ L-jet running!!!!!! This is a pretty big improvement over my tired 1.8L. This motor has lots of torque and pulls and pulls smooth through the entire RPM range! I love it!
Dr. Evil Trans shifts smooth too! Thanks Mike!.
Also thanks to everyone who helped me troubleshoot my F.I. Especially tim_nd!
Another 914 is on the road for years to come.

Cut out a section of a trunk floor from a front clip while at the G&R (thanks Ron), blasted some dirt and surface rust off of it, and set it aside until we start working on the front suspension rebuild. We'll see if Milt is game for more
on the 'BB'
Blasted and painted set of long lug bolts
Also, bought a brand new set of E-brake cables

I made some fiberglass rain hats, after seeing the price for them from various vendors. I used a meatloaf pan. My mom was not pleased....
They will remain that bare amber fiberglass. I love the look.

Click to view attachmentSure. I just used some etching primer followed by some engine enamel, no masking. then after about an hour after the last coat I scratched off the raised portions with a piece of plastic (can't scratch the cap).
Another method I heard of was using a cue-tip dipped in paint thinner to remove the paint while it was still wet, but I didn't have any. My way worked well enough, and passes the visual test for a racecar at least.

I decided to check my new ramps on my trailer today, backed the 914 out of the garage....... Huge oil puddle ( hasn't been leaking at all), drove it up the ramps, ramps worked great, checked under car while half way on trailer, oil was coming out of the bottom of the fan housing....
So today I parked my 914, and will be pulling the motor this Sunday, instead of autocrossing that I already registered for
On the bright side I have a new 2056 sitting on my work bench, and McMark is putting together my new microsquirt FI system, but that's a whole other thread...coming soon.
So for now its back to driving the boxster.

I didn't want the body guys to weld anything to the chassis so they made brackets that bolt into the door jamb and upper door bolts. They used the 75' bumper shock mounts to make brakets to bolt to the front and rear.

What started as a starter swap, ended in pulling the rocker panels off. Something I've never done, and somethings that didn't look like it had in a LONG time. Didn't want to see this:
So I cut it open, cleaned everything up:
and then welded up the patch panel:
The passenger side was perfectly clean, which really didn't make sense, but there was twice as much dirt in the driver side, which probably was the cause of the cancer. the 914 lives to drive another day it would seem.

Ethan, think about getting some of that Eastwood Internal Frame Coating and spray the entire length inside the longs to stop that rust (and in the center tunnel if needed).
This StuffI sprayed my tunnel area, but I still need to inspect and [probably will] spray insides of the longs on the 'BB' before reinstalling the rocker panels.

Christine has been sitting for a couple of months since she has decided to start only when she feels like it. Seems an electrical gremlin in the ignition switch. Today I uncover her, flip the switch a few times to get the fuel pump all primed up. Turn the key and she fires up immediately, so I took her for a ride.
Sure going to be a sad
day when I dismantle her into a mere parts car then on to a roller.

Lennie and I built an oven from an old hospital incubator and used the Harbor Freight powder.
Lennie did some research and we turned down the pressure and appplied it slower with multiple layers. It seems to be a smoother finish than before!

Bottom portion of inner longs are gone. Some prior PO added an outer clamshell which is decent shape. And some prior PO did alot of patching to weld the floors to the inner longs. So I am rebuilding the bottoms of the inner longs, then an Engman kit will cover everything.

My nephew found a 2.0L '6' under a cover whilst helping us clean up around here. At 33 years old, he's finally taken an interest in automotive mechanics.
Click to view attachmentWe removed the muffler, clutch, flywheel and most of the tin, then hoisted it up onto a stand.
Click to view attachmentDisc is worn and glazed but the pp and flywheel look OK, just need a bit of TLC. Rear seal isn't leaking, but we'll probably replace it anyway.
Click to view attachmentThe plan is to do some general clean up, check and replace any seals as needed, adjust the valves, go through the carbs and finally, blast and paint all the tin. When done, this will be going into my old '67 911.
It's been quite a while since I took a '6' apart ... what tool works on this nut? (nothing in my toolbox seems to work)
