Not the 914 but for those with non original 6s, am replacing the CIS with EFI and Triumph triples ITBs run by Megasquirt on my 3.0. Shouldn’t increase the horses but provide much better throttle response and flatter torque up to red line. Probably will squeeze a couple extra MPG if I can keep my foot out of it, but what’s the fun in that? Work being done by X-Faktory Mt Vernon, Wa.
If it works as well as anticipated, then will do the same for the teener.

First I picked up my wheels- Factory Fuchs 15” 7s, 8s, and one 6” spare for space saver from Rick at http://www.porschewheelservices.com/ $990. Then went to an art show that I was in at the Santa Monica airport and I saw a 914-EV at Whole Foods parking lot near there.

Neat, I'm guessing the throttle bodies are originally from another application based on the adapters and offset required for the outboard TB's? Looks and sounds great.

See a 944 strip a 944 I always say biggrin.gif Another one made it's way into the pic-a-part. Walked away with another set of 15x7 cookies, pair of 21mm spacers, and 10 66mm lugs.

Also bumped into a 300zx turbo, and since all this combo gauge talk has gotten me hot and bothered I grabbed these too. I'm thinking I can use the guts and make a triple combo gauge of pertinent info.

Meanwhile back with the sixer, after receiving the correct alternator with built in voltage regulator it was time to reassemble the 50+ odd parts. This was the starting point.

Drove Kugel for the first time since before Christmas. After a month of not driving a 914 I am reminded how well they handle. Pure pleasure! Then back to work. When I installed the psg seat in Rote I thought I had an alignment problem when compared to the drivers side. I pulled the seat and the rails it rides upon intent upon finding the misalignment. I loosened different allen bolts hoping to discover where the misalignment was and eventually discovered the culprit was a build up of of some substance which was very sticky. After thoroughly cleaning the seat tracks and the matching rails the sliding mechanism was now slicker than greased Owl Shit. I believe this seat sat undisturbed and in a fixed position for years and that sticky substance was old grease which was never disturbed and became a sticky sludge over the years. The psg seat now slid so easily I was compelled to do the drivers seat, which was fine until this moment. One hours labor and well worth it! beerchug.gif

Didn't like the quotes I am getting for my heads to put SS valves in them, so I figured I'd do some research and just do them myself.

$100 for this Snap-On valve resurfacer, it is cleaning up really nice so far, it was only a few miles away from the house which was nice. I know once done with it I have a co-worker that would buy it from me.

Now to find a deal on the tools to do the valve seats.

Had a by myself play day at MiddleMotors. Started with loading up more finishing supplies into my storage bins. Labeled with vendor info for refilling. biggrin.gif

Now with both Doug and Matt's cars are off to paint. I now had enough floor space to lay out all the parts Chris (Tygaboy) brought me last fall. I think I'm going need some more totes.

Will do,

The battery acid and the D-cells came today and I am ready to rock and roll. Will post. Got to love UTube. Plus if a person is the adventurous, inventive type and with a little knowledge you are willing to try it. This is the difference in people. Some just sit on the sidelines. Others jump in.

Work on the 914s? ... no such luck, other priorities took place.

Spent some time degreasing and blasting some [912] brake backing plates Tuesday night. I had a limited time with the cabinet, so I didn't finish all of the pieces, will get those done next Tuesday. Then washed, dried and primed them on Wednesday (freshly blasted steel has a nasty habit of surface rusting fairly quickly near the ocean) ... washed, dried and hit them with semi-gloss today.

Also, still working on the dang'd Ghia's seating issue. I picked up a driver's side track assembly when I was in AZ in December, waiting on the passenger side to show up soon. Blasted, this one on Tuesday too ... washed, dried and primed on Wednesday - will hit this with semi-gloss later in the day as well.

It will need a little more trimming, and then it can get bolted to the [PO's] fiberglass floor pan with some additional reinforcement under the car.

Shifting on Rote was hit and miss when looking for 1st or reverse. Discovered one rounded conical screw and deteriorating bushings at the firewall. Ordered the brass replacements vs. OEM plastic. 5 times as much but I'm looking for improved shifting and durability on this antiquated system. I've been spoiled by the Subaru trans and cable shift on another car. av-943.gif

Also check for slop at the shift console bellcrank that uses a roll pin. I found a lot of slop there, so I drilled and tapped a threaded hole for a small bolt set screw at 90 degrees to the roll pin. Took all the slop out of that connection. Shift pattern is much more predicatable since.

So I am working on my DIY Zinc plating and I had to fix my blaster that I have not used for 6 years. In it I found parts for the carburetors for #41. Off the Eric at PMB good find just in time.

The plastic in the front was so crazed that I had to feel my way to blast so I removed the panel and remover the front 1/16 plastic and put it back with a clean protective sheet in the back. Never use Windex on plastic as it can cause crazing on acrylics.

Will wash & prime the parts tomorrow, then paint all of it later in the week. It will be nice having all these parts ready to bolt on when I get the calipers back from PMB.

Also blasted a passenger side 912 head pipe/HE. Will get the same treatment after the backing plates are done.

As the weather starts to warm up, I'll need to focus a little more on the 'BB' if I want to make the Route 66 Run this year idea.gif

Working with the blaster and the vacuum was full of crap. What I mess to clean up. Found out that the “do your own Zinc plate” needs to sit in the vinegar and Epson salts for a couple of days to get the Zinc to go into solution well. More Zinc till it looks like gray primer. The gold finish did not come out to good and I ordered more of the SODIUM DICHROMATE DIHYDRATE 1 Pound to get the mix to look like what was on the Internet. After I get it all worked out I will post my workings.

Waiting to pick up my 76 today from its PPI. It looks great. driving it back home

Picked up my current PPI for my 76. Outstanding original paint, original interior, outstanding Mechanicals.

Outstanding car as Clay said when I bought it, Leamon said 4 mounts ago when he put in new hoses and readjusted the restored PMB calipers. Only a couple electrical gremlins I could not work out.

This great example of a 914 is going to Belgium to a Porsche collector. This and my outstanding 86 Carrera Cab. Making room for my 6 to come home in a few months after Eric does break in and shake down.

I will do a write up on this as I have used a couple of different recipes.
Phase one white vinegar and Epson salt. Zinc pieces that I found did better when I let them soak for 2 days. Some people use sugar. I did not. I found with one day of Zinc soak it did not deposit what I was told would look like gray primer. Had the wrong steel wool also. too rough 000 fine stuff is right. Dichromate was to little and ordered more to make the color mix to match what I see from Bruce Stone.

More soon
