I've practice on five doors before doing this....

I believed inside the door has a factory welded screw and just need to drill it if you wanted to add right door side mirror.

True, two easy ways. Drill up thru welded nut inside the door with a small drill to mak a pilot hole. Choose a size just smaller than the I’d of the threads. Then drill your clearance hole from a be outside. Second way is to use an ice pick from the inside to make a small center punch mark from the inside. Then centerpunch from the outside and drill the clearance hole till you just reach the nut. Viola!

That's what I did on first door.
Drill from inside.
Key trick is Center punch!
The door skin is thinner than the welded plate underneath.
If you locate the hole just right, creates a dimple.
Hence my pic.

First door,
drilling out the holes,
I like the center punch idea from here too!

On Sunday we drove up to Vacaville, CA for a Cars & Coffee and hang out with Dominic, he brought his original signal orange 914-6 and his 550 Spyder replica/tribute.

Afterwards we (my twins and I) headed to his house and then I got to a chance to drive the 550 for about 10 minutes up some twisties and along some nice country back roads. Super fun car.

Getting in and out of it sure is a challenge. Thanks again Dominic.

Sir Joe,

the view from rear facing your front cockpit of your trailer looks like a 914 seat. Is that intentional designing it?

For some reason the fuel pipe union at the tank started seeping. I was using an aluminium washer at that point. I bought some copper crush washers but one size was too small for the tank hole, the other size was right for the tank hole but too big for the pipe and would not tighten squarely. Third option was a teflon washer. This has worked but when slipping the rubber fuel hose on i loosened the nut!! After a cool down i got back to it and managed to get an adjustable spanner in to retighten. Fingers crossed it's fine tomorrow.

It's time to get started on the door cards. They were cut roughly for speakers and had been wet in the past which distorted them, the worst being around the speaker holes.

I filled the holes with hardboard and fibreglass on the weekend which enabled me to get the foam padding stuck down. Then it rained and i packed up for the night.

This a common problem with replacement lens.

I found some small diameter rubber tubing and used it to fill the gap. Not perfect but works for me.

I put in an new throttle cable from Porsche. Much nicer than the GEMO one I had also bought.

It is nice to have a smooth throttle actions now.

The old and potentially original cable had sawed through the plastic sheath.

This was not as hard a job as I was expecting but I did take the console out of my car for not reason.

Tonight I removed the Speedo drive and put new seals in there. Only to discover I may need to do the gear selector shaft also.

I've had no end of trouble painting the front bumper. There was always a reaction in the paint but in different places. I painted them orange first but changed my mind and have put them back to black. The rear bumper is ready to refit. The front one had a small reaction again in one place. After a chat with one of my customers I now have a different, tough, paint to use.

Hopefully tomorrow I will have that done finally.

I just did a rear window reseal, Fixed my door light switches, and now cutting new sound pads for under my carpet. And, added to my list of parts to order some day of course.

I think I now have every functional issue dealt with. Time to enjoy until I do a full resto possibly this winter. Knees willing.

I painted my car a while ago and although good there were a few imperfections. During the rebuild a few more imperfections have been added. Today i corrected most of those imperfections and keyed the whole car for a final blow over. Hopefully i can get it painted next weekend.

Although it's the 70th anniversary bash at my local porsche dealer on saturday so i'll have to do it all on sunday.

After replacing the speedo drive seals this week there was a stench of transmission oil in the garage but thankfully no leak. Sense of smell must be more sensitive than normal.

So so close to being road legal!!!

PO removed the engine number????

Not a good thing.

If I was the law I would want that x-rayed. The stamping from the factory leaves an impression deeper than what they scraped. You never should have shown this to anyone. Well when it’s in your car it will not be able to be seen but WTF. Is that the engine that was in my 73 911s that got ripped off 35 years ago 500 miles after a full rebuild?

I'm not stoked on it either. Its a bummer.
The engine has been in my storage for about 10 years. Before that my dads friend owned it for about 15-20 years. He was going to use the engine for an airboat.
I figured I saved it.
Whatever.....

They were hard to find, I only wanted “plug and play” and no one makes that bulb type except for a vintage led guy in Australia (would have to dig to find his info)

Here are the bulbs:
