Started taking off trim, lights etc to get it ready for paint. Gonna replace the trunk with a rust-free lid (Thanks, Curt!) and have them remedy any dings and/or surface rust. Am taking it in this week and should have it back by the end of the month. Will finish the removing the bumpers, rocker panels, lights and interior tomorrow.

Is that rust under the sealer, Bob? Was it clearly protruding or seeping into the surrounding area?

Is rusting under the sealer a common [hidden] problem?

I guess I'd better check in my '71, just in case there's something growing under it too ???

Body man called and wanted some money today. Went to see how things are comming along. Rear trunk is mostly in place. A little more needed.

Not Bob. Idk if it is a common problem. Apparently it is on mine. The sealer is over 40 yrs old and very porous. It only needs one spot for water to seep in and gravity takes care of the rest. Check the under the windshield cowl where the fresh hoses are. The paint was peeling off and had surface rust. I decided to remove the tank and fresh air system and remove all of the sealer. Will treat rust and reseal.

I installed a late 80’s corvette 3rd brake light on my GT engine lid.

Installed new rotors/pads on Sandy's /6.

Had to modify the rear pads. Instead of having 2 oblong holes for the pins 1 hole is round and needs to be drilled or milled. I milled these out with a quick little program.

That's where I mounted the same thing on the 'BB'.

I ran wires down into the engine compartment, but still haven't spliced them going to the brake light wires in the harness wacko.gif

I'm going to do the LED strip in the targa upper crossbar on the '71 idea.gif
Steve
For the 3rd brake light, I ran the ground in the engine compartment. For the positive, It’s just a spade connector on the rear tail light housing. Unplug the black/yellow brake light wire on the housing, plug in a spade T, plug the black/yellow wire and corvette 3rd brake light positive on it and your done. I also installed a two prong trailer plug on the engine lid, in case I need to remove the engine lid. I also used 1/4” shrink tubing for the positive wire to the trunk.

Nice job Steve...good safety upgrade. Because of you I updated two of my cars to Spoke LEDs. Love them.

I'll have to check out your 3rd brake light next time I see you.

Looking at the Subaru manual transmissions, I'm not impressed with the available gear ratios. I've been looking at the Audi 6 spd trans - looks badass when it's hooked to the EG33... drooley.gif

Since I was able to get a new ignition switch and start the 'BB' up, I got to test out the hydraulic clutch system that I installed last year. Happy to report that it's working great and the 'BB' will be able to get loaded onto a transport under it's own power [to it's new home in South Carolina] sad2.gif

So, in anticipation of someday getting back to work on the '71 ('Howard'), today I decided to order another Wilwood 260-6089 master cylinder, 260-1333 slave cylinder, and the awesome mounting kit from David Willouby (dwillouby) for it. I'll pick up tubing and the AN-3 fittings from Earl's Supply when I start in on that portion of the project ... chowtime.gif

Until then, more rough carpentry, electrical, drywall, finish carpentry, painting and carpeting tasks are all I can see me doing for the near future dry.gif

Spent all day cleaning up the garage to get the 914 into. Last time I had my own Porsche in the garage was over 10 years ago I think.

Then I removed the axles and shift rod. Hope to drop motor tomorrow morning.

I put most of the interior back together in the 'BB' ... had taken a lot of it apart when I was installing the hydraulic clutch system last year. Also started putting some spare parts in the trunk(s).

Almost ready for the transport company to come pick it up. I'd like to take it for a little drive around the neighborhood before they come though driving.gif

Actually, I had my eye on this car on the Samba. He changed his ad the other day to a lower price and added "or trade?' to it.

I messaged him and described my '55 bug, he said he was interested.

We met this morning, and in a no money deal, signed papers over to each other and drove off in each other's car(s).

Weird, straight up trade. This is an extremely dry car from Prescott, Arizona and I got all of it's history too. It is just a lovely car, much better and peppier on the road than the bug.

My poor 914 sits there. (I do drive it.)

I would have done that trade any day. I don't care for bugs since all my friends parents seemed to have one when I was growing up and I remember being stuffed in the back seat on hot days. My wife had a Ghia for her first car so she totally gets my 914 thing. Hers was orange but she gave it to her brother and he painted it blue with spray cans.

My wife knew how to pop the clutch to start the car. I knew she was the one for me.
