Made good on a commitment to the previous owner (yesterday, actually). I purchased this car 8 years ago, drove it for a few years, then dove into a full-on restoration. Promised the PO that I would bring it by to show him when completed.

Resto took over 6 years end to end, due to these things always taking longer and being more expensive than expected, plus a couple of unanticipated hang-ups along the way. Meanwhile gent I purchased the car from developed Parkinson's and I hate to say it, but I was seriously concerned it would become a race between when the car was completed and if he would be able to see the end result. Suffice to say he was very happy to see the car again and I was very happy he got to see it. Sadly, he's no longer in a position to go for a ride, let alone take the wheel.

The smile on his face says it all. It was really nice of you to share the results with him beerchug.gif

That is so very cool. I am looking forward to taking my car to Santa Cruz to the former owner's home, owner number 2, so he can see what became of his Six. He should be about in his late 70's now.

Got my 50th anniversary floor mats from Suncoast- nice!

Now I have to figure out which car to put them in... actually neither car needs them. Probably put them in the '71 since it is almost 50 years old!

The stuff they ship in the Subaru Febest CV's. It was only 2-3 month's old. I've got 15,000 miles on the same stuff in the Suby conversion. The red car just has too much torque and with the big ass tires I'm learning I shouldn't "dump the clutch". Even @ 50mph. wacko.gif

Took my /6 rockers to my buddy today for new bushings and to grind the pads. I could do them myself but I'm way too busy.
If I get this job done and the new WEB cams installed I might be able to get my teen back on the road.

Guess you could install the 500hp Renegade CV's?
But then the trans may go Blammo...

Maybe a big rubber torque coupler like Mercedes uses on its driveshafts?

Installed a new muffler. Re-wired my CHT gauge with a new spark plug style sender. Now the CHT works. 325/350 degrees. biggrin.gif Found and tightened up a small exhaust leak. Then just a general cleaning up. Drove it to the airport today and when I started it to come home, it made a nasty sounding whirring noise for a few seconds. I think my alternator is about to die. I'll pull the belt off tomorrow and spin the pulley and see how it sounds. So, I either change it out now or wait and see if it will get me to the WCR and back. confused24.gif The alternator has probably been on the car since 1973 so, maybe I'll end up changing it before I leave. biggrin.gif

Busy couple days on the no flow problem.

Pulled the thermostat, cooked it and it popped just fine.
Had to drop the motor to pull the water pump, which was fine.

IPB Image

Found the problem with crud buildup in these 2 pipes. One is the heater return, the other is the radiator bypass, which is how the coolant flows when the thermostat is closed. Capped the end, filled with Purple Stuff and left it overnight. Dumped it in the pan and created a chemistry experiment. huh.gif

IPB Image

Did it proper this time and filled with toxic masculinity (blue) laugh.gif Discovered the new system capacity with the Celica Performance rad and heater core in the fresh air box is nearly 3 gallons. Took 10 top-offs to get it burped.

IPB Image

Then I had a problem with the fans going haywire... cause I didn't get the ECT sender connector snapped in all the way headbang.gif
Also had to replace the gauge temp sender as it was reading low.

Whinebro fuel pump is still annoyingly loud though it did get quiet for a moment, plus it gets really hot, so to be safe I ordered a Bosch unit off Amazon which should be here Sunday piratenanner.gif

Made an appointment at the DMV for Wed. Quick spreadsheeting puts the Ins valuation at $20k.

So close yet again....

That looks like a lubrication failure. Normal Subaru CVs hold up to much more abuse that that (full awd launch of a 400hp / 3000lb+ car). I would try and replace the grease with something better or even the factory Subaru stuff.

Spent time on rolling road - crap results from a 2056 with Webers, 86A cam and 42 x 37 heads. Car came with 28mm venturis (ordered some 32mm...) and has those awful 2.0-litre heat exchangers with restrictive primaries. Barely struggled to 77bhp at the wheels - roughly a little under 100bhp at the flywheel. New SSI and Dansk GT-style muffler on order...

What's the pressure with the new pump?

Did you run a bypass and connect to the return line back to the tank (like the 3-port did).
I used the Bosch 69133 pump that most people here recommend. I eliminated the Y in the original return line and connected those two lines together
Hook up a pressure gauge to the port on the driver's side fuel injector rail to see what's up ... you may need to adjust the pressure regulator down to 30+/- PSI.

It was the Porsche stock 914 CV that blew and this is on my V8 914. The one with the Subaru conversion is fine. It has 914 CV's on the outers and Subaru CV's on the inners. Your'e correct, as usual, regarding the Subaru CV's. Stout little fuchers. See you at WCR. beerchug.gif

Install these and forget about your idle jets. The contamination comes from the air pulled in from the top of the carb and not the fuel. Jet Doctor
914 Ranch
Some idle jets never see fuel, dependes on the system. If it regulates the amount of air in your idle mixture the dirt is coming from the top of the carb inside the air filter.

Got the windscreens mounted on Carerror today.

- Move a whole bunch of crap to the front trunk (tool box, car jack, spare oil etc.) to make more room in the rear trunk.
- Cleaned the air filter (man that thing was dirty!)

- Filled up the tank

Top off, beautiful day, running great, and an open road - it is a ton of fun and really doesn't get any better.

Mine ran smooth as silk today as I moved her from Virginia across the bay bridge to her new home on the Eastern Shore. I promised she'll never have to sleep outside in the rain, ice, or snow again smile.gif

And I introduced her to her new "power pack" sitting there in the corner on a furniture dolly just in front of her. It will be a few weeks, but that's going in at some point. Just need to move all my tools. And my lift. And...a bunch of other stuff.
