Diagnosed my high idle issue. Car was idling at 2k. Did a little research on these forums and suspected my AAR might be stuck open. Started the car cold and let it run for 15 min , pulled the line from the AAR to the air breather and it was still sucking air when it should be closed. Plugged the line and the idle dropped to about 1200, pulled and plugged the other AAR line and the car idles at about 900. Now I need to look into unsticking or rebuilding it. May just decide to live without it for a while

Shifting had become impossible so put car on lift & pulled linkage - shocked to find NO bushings in coupler, firewall bushing shot and not even in place, other bushings shot. How did this car ever shift?!?

New bushies on the way, can't wait to get them in. It will shift like new!

I bet that’s a ton of fun with a Wrx motor. Did that car come from the Bay Area? I think I may have seen it 10 years ago at parts heaven???

Yes, it did. An older gent named Thomas "Carreraguy" on the forum. It is an amazing car and I am so happy with it. The only weakness is the gearing of the 901 and I may Subaru swap to the trans as well eventually. I got behind a GT3 in the canyon and when he couldn't lose me he had that totally stunned look on his face.... he asked what was in it and i said "Stock" and drove off..

Best!

Soak the mechanical portion in PB Blaster or diesel fuel for a couple days ... then apply 12v to it to heat it up ... then drain and blow compressed air through the ports.

Repeat as needed ...

But cannot test it because.........

2. Discovered bad brake fluid leak in front right caliper piston......problem is, calipers are from a BMW 320i - what year? No idea........gonna be fun rebuilding something when I don't know what it is! sad.gif

Replaced rear calipers yesterday. What a difference! I almost hit my nose on the steering wheel.

All the venting clearance adjusters were frozen, and only one parking brake lever was working.

Make a mock up of the frame for the rear wing on Carerror. It's to big, I need to make so I can wrap the foam frame in only 20" of foam board. Right now it takes 21 1/4".

I'll make templets of the foil shape when I fond one that works.

i just wanted to start a thread to see what you guys do day to day on your cars.

i'll start,

about a month ago, i pulled my engine and trans to put in a new clutch. had the flywheel lightened and resurfaced. but what i didnt know is that i had to shim the little ball that the clutch arm rides on, after a resurfacing. so guess what i did today?

yup, pulled the trans and put an extra washer under the ball. you have to goop up both washers to get it to seal because the threaded hole goes all the way thru to the inside of the trans. i also replaced the plastic cup that the ball rides in. the throwout bearing and its little plastic blocks were fine so i buttoned every thing back up. 5 hours total. i think this has been the cheapest repair yet on my car. $2.75 for the little plastic cup.

what did you do to your 914 today?

hello everyone i have missed chatting with everyone. last year I did not even use my teener. this year i am making up for it.

so i have a 74 2.0 914

problem: my emergency brake light continues to flash even when i raise the emergency brake. I got pelican parts diagnosis and possible cure but i don't think i have the same switch because i do not see a little plastic button i can switch towards the master cyclinder. see pictures below. BTW: my switch is rusted a lot.

there are 2 varieties pelican points out:1: low pressure when pedal is pushed to floor and reset hen lift off floor (I am NOT seeing that)
2: pressure failure and then remains locked until manually reset.

WHERE IS THE BUTTON TO RESET IT? I DO NOT SEE IT?

check out the 2 pictures....

any other ideas?

thanx Niece

I would go get a new master cylinder to replace that crusty old one you currently have. Brakes are nothing to fool with. Make sure the car stops before it goes!

Eric at PMB saved me. In all the world found only 1 BMW E21 ATE front right caliper like mine, on eBay, and it was trash and guy wanted $100 for it!

Eric had the outer/nose half of the caliper from a left front brake (outer/nose half is same on both sides - mine is cracked), and is sending it to me to pair with my good mounting side.

I have the rebuild kits from Pelican, so all I have to do now is break the 2 halves, clean my half, and re-assemble with new kit.

KUDOS AGAIN, ERIC! YOU DA MAN!

Had a pretty ratty oil pan.. needed an oil change too..

So I pulled the old pan and decided to upgrade the 2.0 Subaru Turbo with the Killer Bee Motorsports oil pick up tube (really beefy) and baffle. Cleaned up the pan, and painted it Ford Blue to give a little color under the car. Also wrapped the up-pipe and some exhaust tube with heat wrap to try to lower the temp under the cylinders a bit.

The turbo was not properly venting and causing weird noises due to pressure irregularities. So I installed an atmospheric blow off valve. The PO had a shot totally block off the valve so it was not right to being with.

Also installed a COBB 3-port electronic boost controller and plumbed all the vacuum lines.

Fresh Motul, factory Subaru filter.

So far, it runs very smooth. Accessport Version 3 tune on the horizon, to replace the 2006 Accessport Version 1 tune it runs on currently.

Photos were larger than expected so Ill put them in another post....Click to view attachment Click to view attachment

Had all new tires mounted and balanced. Tires that came on car were 15 years old and flat-spotted for sitting in one place for 12 years - but had almost full tread......

Can't wait to drive the 14 knowing it won't shake itself to death now - but waiting on my 1/2 caliper from PMB/Eric........

Worked on small misc. stuff tonight......enough to soak my shirt with sweat even tho it's only about 80....

Yup. Going to install this Wednesday with Keith’s help; he installed the same kit on his 914. The difference is quite noticeable. We are going to install the Tangerine beating at the firewall too.

Good news/bad news.

New tires all around, all new car after driving 15 year old, 12-year flat-spotted ones.

Bad news is drove car long enough to get it good and hot - which resulted in a significant loss of power.......engine rebuild needed at 60k miles? Looks like it.

Also ordered Euro tail light lenses after my left one crumbled in my hands....from Sierra Madre......

Thanks GN.

My son (the soon to be primary driver) is out in the garage putting a coat of wax on it and I gotta say it is looking 150 times better. It still has a metric crap ton of chips all over the body but it looks so much better than it did when we pulled into the driveway this morning. I'll get some good pictures tomorrow.

Drove it home after a week away at a buddy's cottage... did you know you can get a tuba, two trombones and a week's worth of clothes in a 914 ? We go play music for a week every summer in Kincardine Ontario. 2 hour drive home and the car never missed a beat.
