Drove to the office on Wednesday before realizing they had salted the roads.

That's very pretty Bob -- nice pics!

I'm now a disciple of your salty road philosophy. Fortunately, they haven't laid it down here yet this year.

It's always a sad day when the teener goes into winter hibernation.

Finally got it registered and got plates on it. Drove it all over with the top off.

Beautiful car. Bring it down to Arizona and you can drive it all winter. We need more green 914's in Arizona.

Jett,
You can bring yours as well. It's not the same green but it is gorgeous.

Getting to the end point on the Tangerine Racing remote Oil cooler install. Well engineered and it looks as if it will solve all of my high temp conditions noted this last Summer OR maybe it was a mis-calibrated oil temp sender. In any case I'm now committed.

Had to remove all of the original thermostat/cooling items such as the flappers, thermostat bellows with cable and oil cooler. The Passenger side cooling path has been cleaned up and will now push the same volume of air as the drivers side. No more higher temps on the passenger side due to oil cooler placement. Yes the engine had to be removed and I took this time to adjust valves and clean up some oil leak areas.
Remote system incorporates a thermostat in the oil network so warmup is quick and controlled. Also includes a fan to force air over and thru the cooler.
Need to finish up with the wiring and oil lines and of course top off the cooler before engine start later today.

Engine quit running on Nov. 10th after running like new on Nov. 3rd with new .060 idle jets and getting carbs dialed in...have spent hours searching for cause because ignition is all new. Today discovered bad dizzy stuck in 27 deg. advance - no wonder she wouldn't start. One spring missing......

Weighing my decision on new dizzy & Pertronix ignitor, dumping points....

Betty and I took Igor and Frody to Maverick Region PCA for cars and coffee yesterday morning, then on to the toy run in Plano, Texas. We took both cars home, I put the new Mahle Gas burners on Elwood, and we went to the Maverick region holiday party. We had 9 914s, including Igor and Elwood, in a display at the Grapevine Porsche dealer.

I was outside talking to a guy looking at the display, and when I walked back inside, I found out Igor won best in show at cars and coffee.

Robert -

My first choice for sure - but currently out of my budget.

Know of a better price than $450? Of course I'll take contributions......

Today I did a few small things, I rotated the tires rear to front and the front to rear. Looking at tire wear it’s obvious the fronts had more wear inside than outside, rears were same, so it looks like I have more camber I’m front and none in rear.- will discuss that more on my suspension thread, but also I removed the front spacers and I put in the new 914rubber front control arm bushings then took it for a test drive.
Then I mounted my CHT gauge I got from Dakota Digital, worked on the wiring , almost ready to hook it up.
The I installed my heater blower I got a few months ago from kevin(Rhodguy), thanks Kevin! It works as advertised!
Sorted thru some parts. I will be listing a few soon in classifieds,
Then put in some new shiny parts i got from Bruce Stone, the cup washers and retainer bolts that hold the upper front struts in place wow what a difference!

-our with some old and in with some new.

- new fan in place- was 42 the other morning I was glad I had heater hose hooked up and seat heaters!

I swept out my RV garage in AZ today ... then looked around for a bunch of parts to bring back to CA - some for 'HOWARD' (our '71 914), and some parts for other World members.

Looks like I need to find a solution to a rodent issue I came across too sad.gif ... As I was sweeping up, I heard some gnawing sounds that appeared to be coming from a transaxle crate, so I wheeled it outside and will open it up tomorrow (Monday) to see what's going on in there. Hard to believe a rat could have squeezed through any of the very small crevices the crate's door or lid has confused24.gif

Need to suit up and put on a mask to get rid of this mess as well yikes.gif

Side note ... I should have hired a contractor to apply a nice floor coating before I moved all the parts from my shop into this garage dry.gif ... I plan to move everything out of the 2-car garage into the RV garage and have that floor coated first ... then I'll have to figure out how/when to get the RV garage done.

Change the transmission oil and replaced my leaking speedo drive gear bushing with one of 914Rubber's new improved bushings. Three things I learned
One, oil leaking from that bushing can spray all over the place to the point that it appears your trunk is leaking oil

Two, Had a bugger of a time figuring out how the threads/nuts worked and the order in which to loosen things to take off the bushing, until I got it out, then it all made sense.

Three, and most importantly.... NO MORE LEAKS!

Finished up the install on the Tangerine Racing remote oil cooler. Redid the hoses supplied with true SS reinforced versions. While the engine was out did a valve check and replaced the cover gaskets. Installed a billet replacement for the taco plate. Rebuilt the oil breather system as it leaked like a sieve. Glad I did that as the internals were broken. No more oil vapor soaking the top of the motor I hope. Rechecked the Webers, they were new this past year, and found a few discrepancies. Made those right.

Assembled all and today turned the key for the first time since Octeenerfest. Started right up and runs great. Didn't exercise her too much as it's only 38 degrees out. All seems good so she's put away for the winter - in heated storage.

Took the red '73 to C&C at Penske Musuem in north Scottsdale yesterday. Took the silver '71 on a ride today- hadn't driven it in quite a while and it needed some exercise!
Wouldn't be doing that if I still lived in Iowa... (though actually it was 50 in Des Moines today but with lots of salt residue on the roads)

Went for a drive in the '74 and had to put it on a trailer to get it back. Looks like I lost the aftermarket fuel pump that someone had put in.
Fortunately, I have a spare CB Performance 3.5lbs rotary fuel pump here already. Gonna change it out on Wednesday.
