Took the 914 to a big start of year classic event at Bicester, Oxfordshire (UK...) yesterday - 485-mile roundtrip in the day. Was one of only three 914s there. Attracted plenty of comment and lots of photos taken. I think I love this car as much as I did the 914/6 I use to own...
Click to view attachmentI've seen the Speedhunters coverage from that event from earlier years and it looks fantastic with the mix of cars and yours look great too!

Installed the Carmagic ( vintage)LED gauge bulbs; very nice product, the bases are BA7 and the LEDs are dimable. They make a brighter LED ad well as Red, Green, and blue.
Right now, the fuel/battery gauge still has the OEM bulb, and the clock temporarily has a green LED, green looks good at night but it will be replaced with vintage whitr
Also installed an Engine Start momentary switch where the cigar lighter hole is

Picked up a cheap lightweight rusty cargo rack for that upcoming epic week long WCR. A tad big but with a rad in the frunk and the pass seat occupied I need luggage space. Going to mod a few things but should work well.
Then on the way home I stopped to look at a nice 944 with 50k miles at a corner lot. Owner & lot manager is a VW bug guy that had a 914 back in the day. We chatted a while then he tried to get me to wrench for him
We'll talk again after I get my own stuff fixed.

I agree. I would have been afraid that rim would break when straightened.
I like the ATS style. I had a set on my 76 and always liked the look. The offset pushed the tire out toward the fender and limited the tire size to 185/70-15, but that was fine.

Not for my 914-6 but a person could put one on. 930s steering wheel as a Birthday gift to me.
I love this wheel. Going on my 86.5 928 44,000 miles and it has a perfect blue leather one in it but I like this one.

Wheel Repair Specialists, Inc. in Santa Ana.
They're not cheap, but they did a great job on one of my 4-lug ATS wheels back in 2016. Three other wheel places told me that they wouldn't be able to repair that one, so there wasn't any question where I took this one.

After months of practically no progess, I made it my goal to get back into the garage this year and finish the car up for good. So far it's been a lot of cleaning and organizing. But, I also put the fuel tank / sender / filler assembly back together and all of the external bits on the transmission back together, too. Feels good to be working on her again!

Actually this happened yesterday.
Sold my 1974 Orange 914 to a 914world member in Belgium. Put it on the truck to Miami for its voyage back to Europe.
I miss the car already. It was a really good one.
But, I can't complain. I still have some of its stable mates to play with and a Jaguar restoration to keep me busy.
Bill.

Day 6 of restoring my 914. Cleaned and washed everything. Fan and heaters on it to dry. Lots of rust, not a surprise.
Stored for decades in my parents rental property garage with multiple tenants. I had lots of 914 parts as well in storage bins along with some MG and jag bits. Tenants had spilled much of the contents and stolen the storage boxes.
Most of my stuff was still there but much is destroyed. Still better than losing it all.
Pix of my archeological dig, I can separate the easier Porsche bits and I’ll figure the rest out after I take mine apart.
I sold the jag last week and the MG is on the West coast.
Useable, So far I’ve found two tail light with housing. Full set of reflectors, full lock set but ignition is rusted. Keys as well. Two carburetors somehow got the worst and are well rusted.
Found two
Let me know if you recognize anything not for a 914 so I can trash it. This is about 1/3 of it all, I’ve already trashed the obvious stuff.

Did a few crazy looking laps around the block with the top off. Poly bushings were not adding to the squeaks --- just the top. Also the engine lid grille rattles since it's missing the rubber fill strip.
Tires don't seem to be rubbing with the new spacers and proper alignment, time to visit the tire store for fresh rubber. Wagging the tail for 4 houses is fun but I'd rather not wreck the car.
Also did a few small things to that other car in the driveway.

Brake caliper mock up. I used simple green and a chip brush to clean off my newly purchased 996 twin turbo brake calipers, need to do a fitment with the correct wheels to see if this is a possible feat.

Well, I turned my 914 around. I haven’t worked on it in a year or probably two. Other than to put the bumpers on. So I think that’s progress. It’s time to finish it for Werks Reunion. Only 48 days. This should be interesting.

You can do it, but it’s going to take Elora if late nights. I got my car back from paint in July and got to Okteenerfest in September. It was very motivating to have a deadline.
Good luck! See you there

That money now pays for the mortgage on my AZ house, which accrues equity annually
I thought about my 914 as I had to walk by it a few times, yesterday. It's still under a nice quality car cover, but I'd like to get it into a body/paint shop some time later in the year

Nice work
How much modification did it require ?
Jim: The motor requires no real mods as it was used in 1976 912e. It stabbed right in to existing flywheel and starter. I found some 912e side tins, but had to modify a 912 firewall tin and 914 front fan belt tins to fit the opening in the 912 engine compartment. It also required fabricating an engine mounting bar that is unlike the 912e as it goes through the tin and connects to the 912 engine mounts in the engine bay. Finally, a throttle hook up rod, electric fuel pump wiring and hoses, and some modified alternator and oil press/temp wire harnesses were needed.
So if you see a 912 roller cheap, don't be afraid to give it a 120 hp 2056 transplant!
