thanks! it really does look so much better. The original clamps actually were yellow zinc plated, but have some overspray on them etc. i will try and clean them up, and have not been successful in finding identical ones so silver will do for now. i was surprised at how the Mequire's plastic polish and cleaner made the diverter boxes look like new!.
bits and pieces here and there. Its not perfect or concours but it sure is an improvement.

Always anneal the exhaust 'gaskets' before installing them ... it softens them up so they'll adapt to the mating surfaces better

I cleaned up a 2.0L muffler hanger that I got from Ben (
@mb911 ) for new paint, so it'll compliment the new banana muffler I also purchased last year.
Also got word from Mark that 914 Rubber is almost finished making up the tan interior components I ordered for our '71, 'HOWARD' a while back. Changing color since we have no A/C in AZ and the car needs a lighter interior. I'll have pristine low-mileage early black seats & back pad available in the near future

Spent the afternoon taking apart a free 1.7 liter block that had the pistons and rings rusted/frozen inside the cylinders so badly it would not turn over. I wanted the windage tray, oil pump and oil pickup from the block.
There was success after using up 2 sawzall blades, a BFH and a chisel to split and break up the cylinder barrels. By the end of the afternoon I managed to get the cylinders broken off the pistons so I could proceed with disassembling the block. Success!

Then I finally got to take it out and push it a little.
Click to view attachment @Raynekat Honestly it's going to take some time to get used to, it's a 993 3.8 RS spec motor tied to a WEVO'd 915 and holy Fuchs its fast. I actually scared myself a couple times on roads I've carved for 20+ years. My old 2.0 is super dialed in for suspension but you have to keep your momentum up to be "fast"--the new 6 is like having a JATO rocket that just goes and I need more runway. One of my butt puckering moments was on a straight away because the thing was going so fast, so fast. First world problems for sure

Started messing with headlights, got the knock off trucklites, PS side works great, DS side seems like it's not getting but a trickle of power, LED barely lights up where the old Halogen works just fine. Thinking I need to clean up the grounds on the back of the bucket, hopefully that does the trick but I've been out in the garage A LOT so I'm calling it quits for tonight. Got belts in, replaced the wipers and blades, rewired the battery cutoff in the rear trunk and added some hard wired trickle charger connections.

A few days old, but put in 1.8 original distributor (0 231 181 009) a few days ago with a Pertronix 1847V Ignitor and engine ran like new - for about 15 minutes.
Suddenly cut off, and as I suspected, the Ignitor died. Returning for warranty claim- Pertronix agreed it was installed correctly - and no, module was not over-heating - but they are wanting to blame my Bosche Ultra plug wires - as it cannot be found anywhere what they really are......

When my wife got home, took her for a drive around the "country block" just so she could see what she was in for (she hasn't been in a 914 for a long, long, long time). She approved of the top off but wondered about the noise when I accelerated (carbs

To keep the marriage intact, buy her some good earplugs.
With my carbed-6 I find earplugs essential if driving for longer than a half hour. Ringing ears are no fun.

You might look into fabricating a quieter filter housing arrangement. There's a mod that utilizes a couple of Honda Godlwing air-boxes that supposedly reduced the intake noise substantially.
Click to view attachmentAlso, CB Performance also has some nifty carb components to help one fabricate quiet but still efficient options. A couple of these plumbed to a remote filter will help reduce the decibel level too.
