Phil -

DID paint the lower shroud of the fan housing, but in satin black - need to make it gloss, but not messing with the alloy section attached to the engine.

Not striving to match the perfection of your sweet goldie!

Hope you are well - I'm doing great now.

Take care......

slowly feeling better, still not completely, but well enough yesterday to wash the cars. had to polish the fuchs to get the water spot stains off the rims, took a lot of elbow grease but results are pretty darn good.
let me tell you Shingles nerve pain is no joke!
but that’s what i got done.

Rebuilt the CV joints on my '71 project car. Lots of crusty old grease in there, but surprisingly little wear on the metal surfaces. Van Svenson's YouTube vid on CV joints is the ticket for the job. Lot's to do on this old girl, but hope to have it on the road next year.

Installed new rubber lines on the front brakes and installed a rebuilt PMB rear caliper on the rear, adjusted the venting clearance and finally bled the system to get a good firm petal.

Vacuumed the outside of the car today getting it ready for the next driving season in very hot AZ. Still a little too hot for use as of this week. Also took it off the blocks and ramps for test drive. Click to view attachment

Went through the engine compartment fuel hoses and updated all including new fuel injector seals. The kit from AA was ok but I ended up being short some clamps. Luckily had a few around that were the proper type.

Started to tidy up the wiring, made a few brackets.

I painted my rockers with wurth satin black (cleaned first with wurth surface prep) very happy with the result. Nice and smooth.

Also had to flex seal my windshield trim (lost the first set on the highway last week after windshield replacement). Not happy with this result. I'd appreciate any advice of how to permanently seat the trim in the clips without the use of flex seal!

For the windshield trim you may have to remove the glass and start over. Clean out the track and install new clips and then the windshield. Then the trim. Additionally, I do not see the front mounting screw and spacer for the rocker install. But the rockers do look nice. beerchug.gif

Drove the teen to Mike's914 and picked up some 5 bolt struts and hubs. Hard to to tell if I got a matching pair, he let me take home 3 struts to check out, I'll clean up the part numbers today.
3" struts because I have 2 sets of Alfa brembo's in my stash.

Not sure if I'll pass these to teenhulk or sale them in the future. confused24.gif

The rockers were fiberglass. Were the factory rockers fiberglass or is this an aftermarket part? Do you know of any pictures available on the web of the correct installation of the rocker in terms of the parts (you mention the mounting screws and spacer) used? I see that AutoAtlanta has a kit but I'm not sure where everything goes.

@boxster914 - Here's a good diagram from 914Rubber.com - which is also where you can get the spacers.

These rotors have been sitting on my shelf since WCR 2009. I was afraid to tackle the job by myself, but it was time for new brakes. Ian Karr's video gave me the confidence to tackle the job.

New rotors, with pads and rebuilt calipers from PMB Performance. Too bad it all gets hidden under the wheel tomorrow!

Factory rocker were steel.

I lost a passenger side fiberglass rocker on the 'BB' in a heavy rain downpour several years ago - it created a giant puddle on a freeway, and I hit it at a high rate of speed and 'POOF' ... it got torn off dry.gif

I still have one driver side fiberglass rocker up in the rafters, would like to source a passenger side replacement (or a complete pair) to put on our remaining 914 popcorn[1].gif

I have a set of fiberglass ones on Elwood. I would trade them for a nice set of steel rockers.

More funky brackets and cable ties. Not a fan of the brackets, will remake them once car is road worthy.

I added a few snapshots of Fusion 360, the CAD program I used for these parts. While not 100% needed, I imported in a picture of a 914 transmission and used that as a guide. With the software you can make the picture pretty darn close to 1:1 scale.

I have been enjoying watching your updates on the different projects on instagram too. i am not surprised that he turned that down because as a survivor even with a repaint its worth more than $50k, that year and model rare color, more like $75k, I've been offered close to that for mine and its not going anywere anytime soon either!!! those guys up in the NW are lucky to have you Cary!!!

Thank You .................. The addition of Ben Martin is taking us to the next level.
I get to focus on bringing chassis back to life.

The $50k was just a shot in the dark. He has ZERO interest in selling it.
Hope to get pictures of the 90 year old gentlemen he bought it from when he sees it in its original state.

Hello @SKL1

Can you share how you finish your firewall? Is it a textured bedlner then the red paint on top of it? is it also help like a deadener to lessen engine noise to the cockpit?

And with the breather box, is it tangerine or what company you got it?

thank you!

This is the status of mine now.

ndfrigi- my paint guys (Stalltek in Wellman, IA) did that when they painted the whole car six years ago. Not sure what they did to make it like that as the rest of the paint is normal-sorry. Yes, breather from Chris at Tangerine.

Did get the half-shafts, cables, and shift linkage in today. Headers and muffler tomorrow and should be close to firing up. Added a 123 distributor so I'll be doing the timing as well!
