I took my car back to the 2nd owner's home so he could see how it turned out. I bought it from him 10 years, 8 months and 1 day ago. I found out he and his soon to be wife eloped in my Six and got married in Lake Tahoe. I met his wife too. They were both blown away with the car and he tried to buy it from me. I told him it was not for sale but that he was the 3rd guy to try.

He was elated to see I did not go back to the original color- av-943.gif just saying.

Here are my brother ad I standing in front of his home with him looking at the car. We had a nice 150 mile round trip to Santa Cruz and back. Top off, windows down, sun shining, 6 singing.... just doesn't get any better.

Just bought those for my grandkids.

The car arrived today. I bleed the brakes. Starting with the rear and then the front. Then I read the manual which said I had to bleed the front first so I started again. Strangely I couldn't get the brake pedal any firmed. I used a pressure bleeder. Pretty sure I removed all air from the system. Should I of had Mrs B pumping the brakes instead?

Then I changed the oil. It was pretty low. Since this car has sat for a few years. I will run for 100-200 then change the oil again to clean out any crap. I didn't take the strainer off but will do that next time. Less than 3l when in which is strange?

There is a smell of burning oil when the motor is running but I guess there might be some oil in the hear exchangers?

Next I need to get the gears changing but I don't know how to access the coupling? Is it from the black panel between the seat or from under the car?

Welcome to 914world and congratulations owning a 914!

1. Brake bleeding recommend start to rear passenger (upper valve) then rear driver side, then front right and then front left side.

2. Burning oil, yes probably just from Heat exchanger from oil leak or oil inside the exhaust/header.

3. Shift adjustment is just below the shifter base. Unless you need some bushing replacement within the entire shift linkage.

Saturday we took Elwood to cars and coffee at the national Breast cancer headquarters. Then I came home, got the truck and trailer, and drove to Tennessee to pick up the parts car from Perry Kiehl. It will be used to fix Betty's 914.

Two long days of just driving. And I found out something interesting. A 914 with no doors and no front trunk lid is an aerodynamic nightmare. The front bulkhead is a big, flat wall broadside to the wind. The firewall and back window are another big, flat wall broadside to the wind. So SUV with trailer and stripped 914... max speed 80 MPH. It just won't go any faster due to aero drag.

But the body shop is going to get started on the fix. piratenanner.gif

Worked on cleaning up the rear shift rod, stripping the rust, and treating with Ospho before painting. Then moved on to installing new 914rubber bushings into the shift knuckle. Tough to get started in the holes. Had to add a chamfer on the leading edge.

@Mikey914
On the replacement bushings, are the holes supposed to be oblong? It's noticeable when not installed but I thought they would round out once pressed in, however, the holes still look a little large after pressed in.

Check out the bleeding procedure on the PMB website. Worked great for me. This was after a complete new parts swap. Lines, MC, calipers and I took apart and cleaned the pressure regulator. https://www.pmbperformance.com/gravity-bleed.html If your car has been sitting and/or the brake system is in unknown shape you may consider a refresh. My rear soft lines were literally plugged up from age.

You have oil dripping onto your heat exchangers. Make sure they are not leaking or you may have a dangerous situation bringing CO2 into the cabin.

What year car? I just went through and replaced all of the shifter bushings in my tail shifter 1970. They were so worn out I couldn't find any gears. No adjustment will help with that.

Got the bahia red '73 running this AM after a transaxle rebuild and various touch ups to the engine while it was out. A friend who is a long time Porsche mechanic helped with carb tuning, timing etc.

Now that is finally starting to "cool" down the AC'ed cars can come back out to play.

I'm a slot car junkie bootyshake.gif

The 50th anniversary cars are "hot rodded" so they're a little more expensive, there are also quite a few 914-6 GT cars that aren't anniversary models and they're quite a bit less money.

Good day today! Terri and I took part in our local PCA region's "New Member Rally." We had the only 914, and one of only two cars from the last century. blink.gif

Cold temperatures to start, but the day warmed up and it was really comfortable with the top off the car and the heater barely cracked open. Clear skies, good roads, very pretty scenery, and the car ran great.

Best of all, we took first place in the rally, even though we were a completely analog driver/navigator team. piratenanner.gif

Total of 259 trouble-free miles door-to-door. Hopefully have a picture or two later.

I needed a gasket so I figured I'd dust off my laser which I have not used in about a year it seems.

I am eliminating the water heating port in case you wondered why the gasket did not match all the features.

The cheap ones like mine come with PITA software and the only way to control the power of the tube is by pushing a button. The more expensive unit can control the power via software.

(I have the orange and white Ten High brand which I paid $600 now that I look at my Amazon orders) After I bought mine the price really shot up.
